Ghost Tracks and Wrenches [Closed]
It had become late since the last train passed by and she’d turned off the radio on her shoulder once her shadow disappeared from beneath her feet. The only sound around her was that of the crackling wood under the weight of the fire, crickets and the occasional coyote.
It had been very fortunate to come across an abandoned platform while traveling on the train tracks that late in the day. Not surprising it was abandoned, though. It was in the middle of nowhere! How did passengers even get there? Perhaps in the same manner she found it. Following the tracks to somewhere. Anywhere. Looks like it hadn’t been used by travelers in ages. The lamppost was dead. Not even a flicker here and there. Just dead. Leaves and plant life was scatter atop the platform. The only wooden bench to sit on had rotted away to time. Still, a fortunate find.
Looking out towards the wilderness, Gear began to recall a story her grandfather had told her several times. Though abandoned stations may seem abandoned, there is always a train that passes by it to pick up the passengers who are seemingly forgotten. A supposed ghost train. The thought made her smile. What kind of gears did the ghostly train use, she wondered. Maybe it didn’t use any at all. How amazing that would be! A laugh escaped her mouth, excited just at the thought of something so amazing. But enough of those thoughts.
Sleep was calling and there was no clue how long of a walk it was to the next town. Putting her hair up into a bun, she squirmed into the sleeping bag, gladly letting sleep take the rest of the night watch.
