Carryin' the Mail
In 1908 my grandfather, George Freeman, became the U.S. rural mail carrier for the Rural Free Delivery (RFD) for Walker, Missouri. He used his own mules and wagon in his service.
During winter in deep snow, it sometimes took him four days to make the circuit of his route. When he came to the end of the day, he stayed the night with a family on the route before he started out again in the morning.

A train driver who is accused of dragging a passenger along the platform after she got her hand stuck in the door has made his first appearance in court. Stephen Murdoch is accused of trapping the unidentified woman’s hand as she rushed to catch the train at Hayes and Harlington station. Murdoch, 44, of Reading, Berkshire, appeared in the dock yesterday after being charged over the incident, at around 1.10pm on July 25 last year.
