“The Chief wants to see you in his office.” Had been the first order she had received that morning. Barely in the door and already being called into the office.
It was the walk of shame, she could hear the sniggers and mutterings as she made her way through the station.
“Daddy’s little girl in trouble again?”
She shot back a look at Eldion, he fell silent turning red. Raina knocked twice and the door was opened by his secretary Celina Orion had served as Chief Dorn’s aid since his election to the position some 25 years before.
“Miss Dorn, come on in.” She smiled gently stepping aside and holding the door Raina stepped inside. “Thank you Ma’am.”
Orion walked past her desk into his office. Raina couldn’t hear what was said but after a moment Orion stepped out nodding at Raina. “He will see you now.”
She fidgeted slightly holding her hat in her hands. Taking a deep breath she took slow but purposeful steps into his office. She closed the door behind her and turned to face her father.
“You wanted to see me Sir?”
“Yes I did, please have a seat.”
“If it is all the same to you, I’ll stand.”
Dorn sighed loudly eyeing his daughter with a neutral expression. “This meeting is off the books. I need you to tell me that Sigismund isn’t why you voulteered to infiltrate one of the-“
“If this is off the books, then I refuse to answer Sir.” Her expression was hard.
“Rain, Sigismund was family. God he was my partner for 10 years and a friend since before you where born. But if you’re going in this thinking it’ll be easy...I can’t lose you.”
“Sir, this has nothing to do with his death. It has everything to do with doing what is right and doing a job I know I can do. Is that all?”
Raina’s tone and expression betrayed nothing of her true thoughts.
“No, that is all. You’re excused.”
Raina didn’t waste time with plesentries, she nodded currently and saw herself out.
She sat down at desk ignoring the whispers around her as she began working. It would take weeks to build an identity and a cover. If she wanted to take the bastards that had killed her Uncle down. And if she got to kill a few of them personally, that would simply be the icing on the cake.
