Image taken in Shaba NP. Shaba is a stunning reserve but has ongoing problems with poaching and banditry. The wildlife is much more wary than in the other reserves in the Samburu area.
On to horizons new! by Rainbirder on Flickr.
The majesty of the Mara-Serengeti migration is not in the dramatic river crossings or in the constant interplay of predator and prey, it is simply the sheer number of wildebeest which captures the imagination. It is however difficult to capture this in a still image as after all, wildebeest are never still! Once the superherd arrives it fans out in all directions -imagine cows in a field multiplied by 10,000 fold. To sit amongst such a herd is an amazing experience -the sounds, the smell and most of all, the movement of so many animals in what is a visual extravaganza. For me the Mara is a place of pilgrimage, a place to celebrate the exhuberance of life! Steve Garvie
