Note: This is a birthday gift to @rainbowxmisa. I hope you have a lovely birthday 💖
2nd note: This didn’t turn out as good as I would have liked, mostly because I came down with a bug while writing and my head is spinning. I hope it’s still enjoyable, I genuinely can’t tell right now
It was Mina’s idea, really. She wanted to do something to celebrate finishing the summer exams, something to commemorate that none of them failed a single test this year. So when she brought up the idea of a sleepover, it was done with a huge smile.
Denki and Eijirou were hyped up and agreeing instantly, with Hanta taking a more calm approach. Katsuki refused, saying that it was childish and stupid, and a waste of time. The four ignored him, as they usually did. Katsuki was all bark and no bite when it came to these kinds of things, he would swear up and down that he had no interest in hanging out, that it would be ‘boring as hell’, but he would always end up enjoying himself in the end - even if he would never admit it. And, as Eijirou had pointed out at one point, Katsuki would most likely be crushed if he wasn’t invited. So they always brought him along, ignoring his halfhearted complaints.
They started planning, talking over food options and activities. And least of all the location. The sleepover had to be held at the house with the biggest living room so they could all sleep together. Which happened to be Katsuki’s house.
Katsuki was vehemently against it at first, but once his mother found out and supported the idea - this was thanks to Eijirou - Katsuki finally agreed, claiming that he only did it to make the others shut up.
And so, they began preparing for their sleepover.
“Say cheese!” Mitsuki called to the group of teenagers posing on the sidewalk.
“Cheese!” they replied, all of them grinning at her phone camera. All except one.
Katsuki just scowled. He found the whole group photo stupid. Mostly because it had been his mother’s idea. He just wanted her and his dad gone, so he could hang out with his friends in peace.
As soon as Mitsuki lowered her phone, he got up from his crouched position.
“Calm down, Katsuki, it’s just a picture. Can’t a mother want a picture of her son and his friends?” Showing her phone to her husband, she added, “It turned out pretty good, too.”
Katsuki had to fight to keep himself from rolling his eyes, which he knew would be a bad idea at this moment. “You got your picture, so get going already!”
Mitsuki was about to give an angry retort when Masaru stopped her.
“We should get going, the conference isn’t going to wait for us.”
Mitsuki sighed. “You’re right.” Turning back to her son, she said, “You know the rules, be responsible and don’t burn down the house.” Addressing the group of friends, she added, “And have fun!”
“Did anybody order the pizza yet?” Eijirou asked as he entered the living room, dropping his bag to the floor. “I want the galbi one if we’re ordering from Pizza-La.”
“Why the fuck would we order pizza?!” Katsuki asked, voice gruff as ever.
“But we already agreed on pizza!” Denki said, setting his bag next to Eijirou’s.
“I know that, Dunce Face! But do you really think I would let you eat that greasy shit? We’re making our own!”
Mina let out an excited gasp. “We’re baking our own pizzas? This is gonna be the best sleepover ever!”
“‘Course it will!” Katsuki said, giving Mina one of his rare, genuine smiles, “It’s at my house so it’s gonna be perfect!”
After dinner, Katsuki ordered Mina, Denki, and Hanta to wash the dishes, while he and Eijirou brought the mattresses down from the upstairs closet - that way they could just crash whenever they felt like it.
The mattresses were settled four of them in a rectangle, with a fifth placed perpendicularly to the others on Mina’s request.
“I roll around all night long and I don’t want to kick any of you,” she said.
Hanta was the first to shower that night. Coming back, he found the others engaged in a game of Mario Kart.
Coming in last place, Denki threw down his controller, getting up to shower and letting Hanta take his spot. The races continued until everybody had showered.
They all settled on and around the couch, passing popcorn and candy between them, their eyes glued to the horror movie Katsuki had chosen. Denki let out a shriek at every jumpscare, Eijirou and Mina joining him at the horrifying climax. When Katsuki wanted to watch the sequel, he was instantly downvoted in favor of a more lighthearted movie.
They eventually took to their beds, so hyped up on sugar and lingering fright from the first movie that it seemed like sleep would never come. The darkness filled with voices which turned sleepy and slowly trailed off one by one. Until Denki loudly whispered ‘oopsie-poopsie’ which led to a round of raucous laughter and another bout of talking.
Eventually, they all passed out from sheer exhaustion.
Katsuki was the first to wake up. Blinking for a moment, he then stretched languidly. His fingers touched someone’s hair. Relaxing, he stayed still for a moment, just listening to the soft breaths around him.
Sitting up, he turned to look at the others. The golden morning light fell in through the tall windows, giving any exposed skin of his sleeping friends a honeyed glow.
Eijirou was on the mattress next to Katsuki’s, one arm thrown over his head and his mouth hanging open, a trail of drool running from the corner of his lips. Katsuki made a mental note to move the tissue box on the coffee table to the floor, within easy reach.
Turning, he looked at Mina on his other side. She had grabbed onto Katsuki’s blanket and pulled it towards her at some point during the night, her own blanket pooled around her ankles, her pillow missing altogether.
Blanket thief, Katsuki thought, a smile playing on his lips.
Denki was snuggled up against Hanta’s shoulder, his blanket pulled up so high only a tuft of hair was visible. Hanta was lying on his back, cradling his pillow in the crook of one arm, his black hair fanning out over the mattress.
Katsuki chuckled to himself. Was he the only one who could sleep somewhat normally?
Getting to his feet, he silently moved to the kitchen. Time to prepare one last surprise before everybody had to leave.
Denki sat up abruptly, fighting his way out of his tangled blanket. “Do I smell pancakes?!”
Next to him, Hanta groaned. “You’ve been sleeping on me all night, my arm is numb!”
Denki just shrugged. “Sorry, dude, I got cold.”
Mina crawled over Katsuki’s mattress, shaking Eijirou. “C’mon, wake up!”
“Jus’ five more min’s,” Eijirou mumbled.
“No,” Mina insisted, “it has to be now! Katsuki made pancakes!”
Eijirou cracked an eye open. “I know, he told me he would.”
“You knew?? And you’re still not excited?!” Turning to Denki, Mina continued, “Aren’t Katsuki’s pancakes the best ever?”
Denki nodded excitingly. “They’re so fluffy!”
Staring at each other for a moment, the two of them sprung to their feet, running out of the living room.
Hanta let out a tired sigh. “They’re a pair of children.”
Eijirou just grunted in reply.
“Better remember all of your shit or you won’t see it again until school starts!”
Katsuki’s words were followed by a couple of giggles and a chorus of ‘yes, mom’.
“I mean it!” he continued. “I’m not gonna be responsible for your forgotten crap! Hell, I’ll sell it! Make some money back from feeding you, you’re all a bunch of bottomless pits!”
Eijirou gave him a toothy grin. “Come on, bro, we know you like cooking for us. And we all love eating your food.”
Mina threw her arms over Eijirou’s shoulders, pressing her cheek to his so their smiles seemed like one big grin. “Yeah, your food is always delicious, we can’t get enough of it!”
Katsuki rolled his eyes, only half-heartedly trying to fight the twitches at the corners of his lips. “Get outta here. I’ve fed you for long enough.”
Once they had all left, Katsuki sat on the empty living room floor, thinking back on the sleepover. He hoped at the core of his being that they could repeat it sometime in the future. He hoped that he could continue to have fun with his friends for many years to come.
