Hear me now... Chase Infiniti as Polaris for the MCU.
Lorna and Danger should've slept together entirely because they'd both be bad at it. Lorna has canonically only ever had sex with Alex and it was also canonically mid as fuck at best so she has absolutely no reference point for what good sex is meant to be but obviously Danger is expecting her to the experienced one here so now she has to like. Figure out a bunch of stuff and possibly call Wanda to get advice on How To Pleasure Machines which is not a conversation she is willing to have ever
And Danger's references are whatever she witnessed as the Danger Room which means super raunchy risque kinks and fetishes. She has no tact whatsoever about any of this and can't understand why Lorna is pouring herself a glass of strong whiskey after Danger suggests Lorna doing shibari to her and then taking her apart physically with brute force
It would be one of the worst experiences of their lives and I would've loved every second of the trainwreck
Dr. Lorna Sally Dane - Polaris
Okay. X-Men 97 season 2 is done, thank fuck. I’ve had some thoughts in the past week.
For starters, some adjustments to my views of the creatives and how things went down.
One person suggested that perhaps season 2 rushed things to get past DeMayo’s original plans. If true, then fucking Polaris over regarding Genosha may still be just DeMayo’s fault. May have been required to mostly stick to his plans for contractual reasons.
Even if that’s not the case, it occurs to me that the writers who wrote the episodes might have wished to do the right thing, but were overruled by higher ups. Wouldn’t be fair to punish them. In the same way that I think some comics writers like Steve Orlando wanted to do right but had people like Jordan White fucking them over.
I do think Marvel/Disney in general is taking a closer look at Polaris for possibilities beyond comics. I think they’re starting to recognize that she has a shitload of interest and untapped potential they’ve been sitting on, when not actively sabotaging it, for too long.
I also think, as I said before, that X-Men 97 acknowledging that Lorna existed well before 90s X-Factor is a positive step for her, which I think would have been ignored 5 years ago.
I felt those deserved bullets as relatively new thoughts.
My general attitude is still the same.
X-Men 97 still needs to not only acknowledge Lorna as a survivor of the Genoshan genocide, but make it a HUGE deal with tons of promotion. If they had acknowledged it in season 2, it could have been just a notable point that season 1 didn’t address. But now, the cartoon needs to reach people that tune out after season 2. It needs to ensure that acknowledging her history doesn’t come off to non-versed viewers as an ass pull retcon done because of interest in her.
I’m still dropping all things Disney after Halloween (excepting anything I can’t avoid) until her experience as a survivor of the Genoshan genocide is meaningfully acknowledged and used. To make clear how serious I am, I already have these conditions:
I swore not to engage in MCU works - both film and TV - until Wanda and Pietro are Magneto’s kids again. That was before Age of Ultron. With the sole exception of seeing Black Panther to support diversity, I have not seen a single MCU work since.
I have a standing refusal to buy ANY Star Wars games. This is the only case where there’s no “if x is done then I’ll restart” condition. Why? Because it was in response to Disney cruelly shutting down LucasArts games the very instant that merger went through. There’s no way Disney can rectify that, so there’s no condition I could set that would bring me back.
Some people will read this and immediately think “Disney and Marvel don’t care, you’re just one person.” And I have two specific points as responses to this.
I am not doing this out of some naive belief that people at Disney and Marvel deeply care about my individual buying habits. I’m doing it for me. I’m doing it because I don’t want to give them the money. At the most extreme of my feelings, not giving money or engaging in affected works is easy because the idea of doing so disgusts me.
There’s a snowball effect as the years pass. I just said I haven’t seen MCU stuff since before Age of Ultron. That’s 11 YEARS of my money and counting. That’s lost ticket and physical disc sales. That’s lost merch sales. That’s lost park ticket and park merch sales. But it’s not just MY sales. It’s lost sales from people I might have gotten interested. Or that might have done things with me. Not even counting the people reading this post. One lost sale isn’t one lost sale. It’s all the lost sales downstream.
I do not come into these decisions expecting Marvel cares. But I do come into them knowing how I feel, and how my decisions impact all of it.
I’m prepared to go the rest of my life avoiding Disney content as much as possible, if that’s how it turns out. Disney’s big, sure. But they’re not the only game in town.
I hope that in a year or sooner, I see Marvel acknowledging and respecting Polaris as a survivor of the Genoshan genocide. I’m prepared for if that doesn’t happen.
Their hairstyles are so 80s that I love it.
