The economic model of state-socialism was in fact the “development model” of the capitalist world economy where economic stimulus was mobilized through protectionist state interference.
This model was a massive success in that it brought the capitalist world-economy to it’s highest performance point and strongest dominance it had ever seen.
Unfortunately the capitalist world-economy is one of cyclical crises and around 1970 the productive capacity that fueled development economics and the post-war economic expansion collapsed.
Thus developmental statism was thrown out and neoliberalism brought in as a hasty replacement.
