Hey dear! I'm curious really curious, do your characters have any specific code or limitations on the magic that exists in their world?
Yes, actually I haven't made this clear at all lol! Magic doesn't technically exist yet in Watcher's World. Vahbiz and Zawadi are the only supernatural humans in my story so far, and that's because of their extraordinary parentage. Their powers are distinct and limited; Zawadi can heal/rejuvenate the things around him, and Vahbiz can weaken/sicken anything with the force of her mind. Both can accelerate or delay the process of decay at will. But until they take on the mantle of Life and Death, they can't actually command forth life, or kill something with their powers.
So when a Reiss citizen keeps repeating about witches beyond the Carthian mountains, it has a ripple effect. There are no witches in the "Valley of Witches", but because of the myths and folklore in Reitzerland, it's easy to misunderstand the villagers, or even react with hostility upon first contact. Don left Chariv okay because, well, he's Don! He can't start that kind of fight (unless he romanced one of the villagers and fathered a child or something lol). But the next person won't react like Don did.
