DARK TECHIE. WHAT. I have questions!
Hahaha, oh, good gods. HI HAVE SOME RANDOM VIANDE ROUGE HEADCANON NOBODY NEEDS, YEAH?
Dark!Techie works for some sort of surveillance outfit; I’m not sure how legal it is, and it doesn’t really matter. At any rate, he spends most of his time in front of his rig, either working (spying on people), or enjoying occasional downtime (spying on people). Whereas work requires him to track specific people (usually having less to do with their physical location, and more their habits/spending/vices/general footprint, usually for some kind of horribly unsavory purposes), during his downtime, he’s free to people-watch at his leisure. Sometimes it’s really “watching” -- picking someone out via a random streetcam and following them as far as possible, switching video sources along the way until he exhausts all possibilities (security cameras, dashcams, phones, etc). Basically, he’s more or less like... Person of Interest’s Root using the Machine. He has absolutely zero boundaries, and will pretty much hack into any possible feed; when he weighs these activities against what he actually does for work, they seem fairly innocuous. He’s not collecting data, he’s just watching an interesting man go from car to bank to grocery shop, or walking down the street, dropping off dry cleaning, stopping into a bar for a drink, going out back into the alley with someone, just, living a day of life, I mean... it’s practically benign, and so interesting.
Sometimes he forgets he’s watching real people. It almost feels like a personal little movie, a slice of life created just for him.
And anyway, he’s mostly watching only one person’s movie right now.
He didn’t mean to. It just kind of happened, and really, for the most part, Kylo hunts fairly cleanly. Nobody else would have seen him go out back, not if they weren’t watching him already. Nobody would have tried to find another way to look when the image from the camera above the back alley door cracked and splintered and went fuzzy, then black. Nobody else would have seen anything.
Techie’s still not quite sure how he feels about what it is Kylo does, but how he does it -- how he goes about everything is endlessly fascinating. Techie’s watched all of his home surveillance videos. Some of them, more than once.
