Shit I want to see from future SW projects:

Give me more than crumbs about the Rakata. GIVE ME RAKATA.

Mon Mothma managing the post-war New Republic. Quit hiding the politics in fucking books. Suck it up, tell the story.

A clone underground. Not rebellion. A rebellion inevitably ends in death and trauma bc the Empire obviously doesn’t fall until it does it canon. Where the fuck is Cody he better be alive being desert husbands with Obi-Wan.

More clone stuff in general.

Literally anything about the Coruscant Guard. I will accept and read a book about it if I have to even though I usually hate how SW books are written. I have personal beef with Luceno he is not aware of 🤣

A Veep parody in the Senate. Pick your era but I feel like late Republic would be best.

Early Republic stuff. Maybe show us the beginnings of the Republic? How the Jedi ended up as peacekeepers?

More genre stuff. I love the Jedi but there’s infinite possibilities

Project. Goddamn. Blackwing. Give us a movie about a missing Imperial Star Destroyer found drifting in space during the New Republic and send a team in to investigate if you must. Hell just more horror in general. There’s ample space for it.

Random headcanon:

You know how Star Wars has a lot of humanoid species. Zabraks? Humans with horns. Mirialans? Humans with green skin. Twi’leki? Humans with lekku. These species apparently have developed on different planets on different sides of the galaxy. And still apparently can reproduce together, which generally would indicate a close genetic relationship.

Now I know that this is for doylist reasons, because the actors are actually all human (or cgi), so you have to use makeup and add-on prosthetics to make them look like aliens.

But I prefer to think that it’s because some of the ancient races, way before the Republic or surviving history, seeded the galaxy with different species and terraformed many of the planets that today seem like they’ve always been fertile (there probably should be planets with a suspicious lack of a fossil record though). And either the Celestials or the Rakata gene-engineered many of these populations, either for altruist reasons (to improve their survival, possibly with their consent), or for nefarious reasons (the Rakata were a galaxy-spanning slaver empire, after all).

Maybe if it was the Rakata, that’s why the technology was (purposefully) lost after the Rakata were overthrown. And maybe these ancient traumas continue to affect attitudes toward gene engineering and cloning even today. That could explain why we don’t seem to have deliberately gene engineered species in GFFA*, beyond the clones who come from an isolationist planet from the fringe of the galaxy.

tldr: The species that can reproduce together actually are genetically closely related (their populations only diverged some tens of thousands of years ago), but the fact has been lost to the mists of history.

*) edit: @lesquatrechevrons pointed out Arkanians (which I didn’t remember). But what I mean is that compared to other sci-fi stories with comparative level of technology, gene engineering doesn’t seem very common in GFFA.

Something I don’t see talked about often, probably due to how old KotOR is and the big Revan reveal overshadowing everything, is the excellent buildup for the Rakata.

First, we see the symbol of the Sith Empire on Taris. It’s a nice little design, but there’s no indication of what it means or how significant it is yet.

Then there’s an oddly similar symbol in the Dantooine ruins, which have been sealed for millennia. I’m sure that’s normal. And you talk to the droid, who only identifies an ancient species as “the Builders“, nothing more.

The buildup works best if you follow the intended order of Tatooine-> Kashyyyk-> Manaan-> Korriban. It’s on Tatooine you first see statues of the Rakata, left ruined in a cave, and the Builders are again referenced in the Sand People’s history.

On Kashyyyk, you find a computer projecting a hologram of this species, supervising another terraforming project. The species still isn’t identified, but this is the first complete representation of them so far.

On Manaan, there’s more evidence of the Rakata tampering with planets since before the Republic. Then on Korriban, you’re given the Box. You talk to a member of this unknown species, whose mind is imprisoned within and can’t recall very much. He speaks to you in the same language as the Dantooine droid, which Revan couldn’t understand at the time, foreshadowing how Revan’s memories are returning as this happens.

(I’m actually a little annoyed the character is named “Rakatan“ instead of something like “Prisoner“ because that name isn’t known yet, but anyway...)

Soon enough, you finally get to the Star Forge after gathering five maps. We all know what it looks like now, but most of us didn’t during the first playthrough.

It looks like those damn symbols. The mysterious superweapon everyone’s been searching for is on the Sith’s banner. Revan, you motherfucker.

You see the monument of the Rakata’s infinite power, then you get sent crashing down onto their homeworld for the first encounter with living, modern Rakata.

They used to rule the galaxy. Now they have swords and do spinny kicks.

Revan, you’d better be careful with that space station.
