I'm Gonna Marry Emily Kinney
When I learned that Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless was the one who played Jenny Humphrey in The CW’s television series Gossip Girl, I figured out the reason why I didn’t know about her is because I never really watched the show. But it’s the total opposite with Emily Kinney; I was (and still am) a huge fan of AMC’s The Walking Dead series and this is why I love Beth Greene (I mean, who doesn’t?). Too bad The Walking Dead killed off her character, but great news; Beth is alive!
Hell yeah, Beth is alive. No, she did not turn into a walker. She’s just alive and she is even going to marry a rockstar! Or at least that’s what her latest single is all about. OK, it’s not actually the character Beth that I am talking about right now but the person who played it. The 29-year-old actress and singer has just released a new music video for her pop single Rockstar, and manages to make a cheeky reference to her zombie show. You read it right, Emily Kinney is already almost 30. Surprise! I know right. I also thought she was younger ‘coz she played the character of a shy, soft-spoken 16-year-old farm girl who never drank alcohol. And also, when you hear her sing, she sounds like a little girl or an angel (if you actually already heard a real angel sing). But Rockstar is all about planning to marry a guy which obviously isn’t a young girl thing. To the tune of a very catchy music, Emily Kinney sings about her future plans; marrying a rockstar and the life after that. What makes the song even more lovable is that she plans on living a simple life despite being married to a famous recording artist. Admit it, when you hear the word “rockstar” you immediately think of a person who lives luxuriously and bears a bad reputation. And of course, when you are married to a rockstar, you’re also going to pick up the bad habits. It’s just a relief to hear that Emily Kinney still chooses to stay sweet and simple even after marrying the lucky rocker dude.
The music video is equally simple — it’s even shot entirely in black and white. It shows Emily just hanging out with her friends, dancing a little, and caught-dead wearing a cropped MTV shirt, flannel and a beanie which reminds me of the 90’s era. But maybe it’s just me or the music video is really sort of sarcastic. I’m not sure but Emily and her friends seem like they’re mocking rockstars in it. And when I think about it, the song is also kind of sarcastic in a way that it tells a story of a life that is opposing the most possible real deal when you marry a rockstar. Or maybe it’s just in my head ‘coz I know that Emily Kinney is a country artist. And I don’t know who she’s dating right now — is there even someone?
But you know what, whatever! It doesn’t matter if she really wants to marry a rockstar or just being sarcastic about it, all I know is that I love Emily Kinney and her song. Too bad I’m not gonna be seeing any more of her in the continuation of season 5 of The Walking Dead. But if it is any consolation, I at least am still gonna be hearing songs from her.
