I’m also uncomfortable with being hovered by store clerks... Usually in fashion and drugstore the staff will be like this (at least in my country). I wish they read people’s faces more thoroughly to gauge which ones need their help, ones who don’t mind being hovered, and ones who are literally uncomfortable with that. If I am being ushered too much several times, I won’t go back to that store unless out of necessity lol.

I had experience being a cashier at my family’s restaurant. Miku-chan’s way works really well--you note people’s moods, and then adjust your attitude accordingly. The basic things I suppose are like this: If the person looks fun, you can go casual with them, light convo will make them comfy and order several stuff. And if they are old people, speak slower and ‘kinder’, take time to explain what they don’t understand. It’s really basic, but I notice not all people do these and just put stoic faces while serving others.

Oh, come to think of it, it is!

I commend Akane’s bravery on trying to speak with foreigners that you don’t know the language of! I think it’s something we can learn to do, to help people in need whoever they are.

The feeling of someone saying thank you to you is really amazing!

So fast?! But oh well, you can’t really expect several chapters in Izakaya lmao

Chapter 4 of Shiranai was all about 落語 (rakugo, a comedic story, or the telling of such a story). I have not seen a 落語家 (rakugoka, a comic storyteller) before, but now I’m interested to learn more.

The diagram here shows how in Kabuki theater, the stage is laid out so that the old guy, or guy in charge (えらい人, eraihito) is on the right (上手, kamite), and the newcomer (新参, shinzan) or the underling (下っぱ, shitappa) is on the left (下手, shimote). So when a 落語家 is performing solo, he will look to his right (as though he’s on the right side of the stage) when he’s speaking as the boss, and he will look to his left (as though he’s on the left side of the stage) when he’s speaking as the underling.

This was all put under まめちしき (mamechishiki, trivia). Which itself is an awesome word. 知識 (chishiki) means knowledge or information. Mame (まめ、豆) means a bean... or a little thing. So mamechishiki means a bean of information, or... trivia, which just like in English shares meaning with trivial, or something of not big importance. Awesome.
