It is our duty to fight. It is our duty to win.
We must love each other and support each other.
We have nothing to lose but our chains.
On Wednesday March 26th, 2014 I participated in the Rally For Change at Bowling Green State University. This rally brought together several student organizations and movements. The organizations (Environmental Action Group, Environmental Service Club, FORCE, Vision, Black Student Union, Latino Student Union, TOMS BGSU) all strive for social justice and human rights at BGSU.
The rally highlighted gender equality, LGBTQ rights, multiculturalism, and environmental issues on campus.
The Rally For Change started at 11:30am and began with posters being passed out, students writing their visions for the university on a banner (that included gender neutral bathrooms, inclusivity of diversity, 100% Clean Energy, etc) that would be presented to BGSU President Dr. Mary Ellen Mazey, speakers representing the various movements, unified chants and a march to The McFall center to quietly present the banner to President Mazey.(However, we were denied and were told to take a photo and tag the university's facebook page).
The purpose of this rally was to show that these movements have commonalities and can help support each other to further their causes. Together, our progressive minded groups that are engaged in campus activism recognize the importance of human rights issues that need to be addressed at BGSU. Together, we will fight oppression, marginalization, and secure a just future for students and community members of Bowling Green.
We are unstoppable; another world is possible.
The people, united, will never be divided.
I believe that we will win.
Hey hey! Ho ho! All this hatreds' got to go!
Be a leader, let's change BG together.
