what’s the reasoning behind the different animal tags you have for the Wickers? :O its very interesting to me
I’ve been waiting for someone to ask me this thank you so much dofksnsjkamsnsndnnskanan
Jacob (Ram Tag): He was actually originally going to be put under “dog tag,” because of his relationship with his mother and his role in Fort Freedom, but the Abraham and Isaac parallels put blinders on me. Like imagine if instead of sending a ram to spare Isaac with, God sent an older brother with a gun. Would that be crazy or what.
Josie (Fox Tag): For a very long time, fox hunting was a very popular sport, typically by wealthy men, and was celebrated like any other form of athletics. When they aren’t being hunted solely for sports reasons. Foxes were (and still are) often either hunted for pest control reasons or to collect their pelts. Put those two things together and you've got what I imagine it feels like to be a young queer woman in a place as conservative and patriarchal as Fort Freedom. Also she reminds me of the song Foxcry by Rabbitology, though that’s for relatively the same reasons.
Jemimah (Doe Tag): Honestly I just needed another animal that commonly hunted by humans and the Lana del Rey girlies (among which is, for better or worse, Jemimah) (for worse) seem very fond of deer. I’m sure there’s symbolism in there somewhere outside of the same reasons that Josie’s a fox but I don’t feel like investigating that one right now. I wasn’t too bothered about this one because even though she’s very dear to me, Jem mostly just exists in my head so I don’t tag her as often.
Jedidiah (lamb tag): I feel like this one’s self explanatory. Ritual sacrifice and child exploitation and all.
Johannah (rabbit tag): back when she was little she was oh so rabbit coded. She was small and vulnerable and had a big family and she would run and run and run and run and run and run. Also considered how she turned out it’s just kind of funny to compare her now (bloody, violent) to such a delicate animal.
Kellyanne (Bird tag): I believe that at some point in season five, Jed compares her to a bird, though what sold me on the bird tag for her was the nesting habits of the cuckoo bird, which will lay its eggs in another bird’s nest, forcing it to raising its chicks, until the chicks grow too big and inevitably destroy the nest. Lots of symbolism.
I don’t have tags for any of the others because they aren’t really there to me tbh. My fatal flaw as a Wicker family fan is that I don’t give a single fuck about Joshua.
