the only reason I don't use your blog as my personal dash more often is if you use mine, then I've already seen all the posts because you just reblogged them from me 🙃

I was in wildfire smoke range, but fortunately it was just hazy and moderately bad air quality where I was. the only disappointing thing is my family was going to go to a farm yesterday that was having a highland cow festival (very cute) but we couldn't. I hope you're also staying safe with the smoke!

I saw you both got into PHM! yippee mutuals in the same fandom again! how is life going for you??

I'm about to start reading The Locked Tomb series... so here's what I know about it beforehand, since seeing a non-fan's idea of what something is about is always funny:

The main characters are Gideon, Harrow, and Nona. Are they all "the ninth"? The book titles seem to imply that. Ninth what?

They're necromancers

Also maybe nuns? There's some kind of religious aspect to it

God is a character. Or maybe he's a guy named John. I've heard "Jod", does this mean John-who-is-God or the ship of John/God?

They're in space, but this is not actually very important

I think it's Gideon and Nona who have a romantic relationship? But also they spend a significant amount of time apart

Is wearing skull face paint just a necromancer thing?

Side note: It took me an embarrassingly long time to realize that the woman(?) on the cover is wearing sunglasses and those aren't just the skull's eye sockets

There's something called a lector I think. Is that a necromancer-nun?

A writing blog I read years ago critiqued the magic system where one of the characters seems to sacrifice herself or something at the climax of one book.

The overall vibe seems to be dark comedy, chaotic but with grounds for some deep analysis about religion and such.

Let's see what I got right and what I was totally wrong about!

i have like the opposite of main character syndrome. i assume that nothing interesting happens to me and no one wants to hear about my life or interests. i get through dangerous situations by telling myself that nothing bad will happen to me because it never does. occasionally i drop random lore about myself that i just never talked about before because it wasn't relevant to the plot. i am built to be the side character supportive friend who listens to the mc's problems and has no plotline of their own.

5. What work of yours got more feedback than you expected?

Compilation.FeedLog SecUnit_and_Students 100%. When I woke up the day after posting it to like 10 comments, my first thought was they must be bot spam because I'm not used to my fics getting a response like that! The Murderbot fandom is so supportive!!

6. Favorite title you used

Coming up with titles is so hard! I think my favorite title I used this year is "Like fists unraveling, like glass unshattering," because it's a Sleeping At Last song lyric.

16. What's your most common "Additional Tags" tag?

Overall, it's a tie between "Angst," "Post-Canon," "Whump," "Emotional Hurt/Comfort," and "Angst with a Happy Ending." In just 2025, "Whump" and "Angst" were the top. (Wow, I obviously have a type. Which makes it even funnier that my most popular fic by far this year was the no-angst slice-of-life fluff-and-humor one.)

3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?

I’m going to say Like fists unraveling, like glass unshattering. It took about 7 months from when I first started writing it (July 2024) to when I published it (March 2025), whereas all the other fics I published this year were written in just a day or two. I did a lot more editing than usual and really put effort into hitting specific emotional beats.

15. What WIP are you taking into next year with you?

G-d-willing, not my FTH fic. I have several long-term WIPs that I haven't worked on in a bit but would love to finish sometime: a Good Place AU for The Owl House and a college AU for The Locked Tomb. I also would love to write more for The Murderbot Diaries. I'm notoriously bad at multi-chapter fics, so usually what gets published is whatever oneshot I write off the top of my head.

Oh, also, not on ao3 but on my whump account @violets-whumperflies I'm planning to continue my original whump story.

27. What do you listen to while writing?

Nothing, actually. I can't really focus if there's music with lyrics on, and it doesn't feel worth it to put on some instrumentals just for background noise.

I finally read the 3rd book in the Hell's Library series by AJ Hackwith and immediately went to scroll through the tumblr tag. It's tragic that this trilogy's fandom is like 3 people because it should be so popular! Heaven and Hell and other afterlife realms! Almost all the main characters are queer POC! Is it found family or a polycule? There's angst! humor! softness! trauma! It's literally about the importance of stories!!

Anyway go read The Library of the Unwritten (1st book) and scream with me.
