I’ve always headcanon that on Mona’s home planet they don’t celebrate birthdays. You’re just born and that’s it. Salamandria doesn’t really have holidays except celebrating and have a grand feast after a war is won or ceremonies honoring solider who have been promoted to higher ranks in the military. So Mona never celebrated her birthday, let alone know exactly when she was born. I like to imagine she only knows by the star constellations in the sky, like she’ll see a specific one at night and know “Oh, I’ve survived another year of life. Wonderful!”
My friend @bludinkdragonz actually once shared with me a headcanon that Mona Lisa doesn’t go by years when it comes to her age, she goes by days. So basically someone will ask her how old she is and she’ll say “I’m 6,205 days old” and everyone looks at her confused until Donnie steps in and says “She’s 17”. It’s so funny but also so in character that I’ve made it my headcanon too XD
Okay, now to your actual question! Mikey would randomly ask Mona one day when her birthday is so he can know when he can make her a special birthday cake (he does it for all his friends) and that’s when Mona tells him that she doesn’t know and has never celebrated her birth before. With the help of Donnie, he figures out a rough estimated day of when Mona was born based on the star constellations I mentioned earlier. They’d conclude that Mona was born in late spring to early summer. So with a date now figured out, Raph and the others start planning.
Mikey suggests a surprise party, but Raph knows they shouldn’t do it because Mona can’t handle surprises. She’ll think she’s being ambushed and start shooting without hesitation. So Raph would organize a party for Mona to celebrate her first official birthday party. He and the others would set it up in The Lair; April, Donnie and Leo would decorate the place, Mikey would put together a music playlist, Casey will get the food, and Raph would get their other friends on board. Mona would be so touched and amazed how far in lengths everyone is going for her on a day she never really gave much thought before, it will make her feel special and realize how much she means to her new friends on Earth.
As a birthday gift, I always imagine the first gift Raph ever gave Mona Lisa was a pink scarf he knitted for her, but I’ve already put the gift idea into a fanfic where he gives it to her on their anniversary, so instead for her birthday Raph would give Mona a portrait he painted himself of her and all her friends to remember her first earth birthday party and to show that she is truly apart of their family now.
