The hall of prayer for good harvests built in 1420 Beijing, China
The many steps of the Great Wall in China had #RamonWOW sharing thoughts about his new challenges in life. Realize the road is not over even when you reach the top.
Beyond the WOW: Ramon De Leon Makes Dominos Pizza An Experience
By Krysten Beck & Conor Altier, Account Managers On April 13th, the entire SocialKaty team got to experience the marketing brilliance that is Ramon De Leon. Ramon is the face and voice behind all six Dominos locations in the Chicagoland area. He is best known for his trademark #RamonWOW-- a running hashtag and account of everything Ramon and the rest of the Dominos pizza crew does to go above & beyond the normally expected customer service. Ramon’s ideals are so revolutionary that he was doing social media before the days of Facebook and Twitter. He brought the personal touch first through programs like AOL Instant Messenger; a messaging service where hungry users could make pizza order directly to Ramon right through the internet. This became a much more viable option for users instead of dealing with the hassle of waiting on hold or having the order being lost in translation over the phone. You can see these same ideals in the popular Dominos Pizza app (available on both iPhone and Android). However, these apps didn’t come out until almost a decade after Ramon first started spearheading this revolutionary approach to customer service. However, Ramon’s innovation doesn’t end there. The #RamonWOW hashtag and marketing ideals have gone viral worldwide due to his stance on the most important part: the customers. In any business, mistakes and issues are going to happen. The true test is how one handles those negative issues and spins them into a positive situation instead. Back on April 19th, 2009, one of Ramon’s branches in Chicago messed up an order with a customer better known as Interactive Amy. To make it up to her, Ramon (along with the store manager Junior) recorded a personal apology with the social media video service, Viddler. The video has been watched, shared and embedded in thousands upon thousands of blogs all over the world. This kind of personal touch and care for an individual customer is just not seen in the most business these days (let alone 3 years ago). To make the story even sweeter, Ramon and Amy stay in contact and are still friends today.
As Ramon put it, “Some people say I’m marketing guy doing pizza. I just say I’m a pizza guy doing a little bit of marketing.” This quote couldn’t be more on target. Ramon’s video apologies and outstanding customer service has only reinforced the Domino’s experience in Chicago as a must for any Chicagoan as well as any visitor from all over the world. With his personal video apologies going viral internationally, Ramon has established himself as a Global Keynote Speaker and has been recently engaged with Social Media & Social Business in Germany (March ‘12), Social Media Biz Summit in New York (February ‘12), and was an Ambuzzador of Buzzattack in Austria (October ‘11). The rest of Ramon’s ‘resume’ and speaking engagements can be seen on his LinkedIn profile. The stories and ideals that Ramon has passed along to his fans has created a desire to come to Chicago to have the #RamonWOW experience as well. Besides being real, transparent and accessible, another one of Ramon’s goals is to make Domino’s a tourist spot along top attractions like “The Bean”, Shedd Aquarium and catching a game at Wrigley Field. With his dedication, beliefs and dedication to speaking all of the world, this dream is set to become a reality in the very near future.
The whole SocialKaty team and the man himself, Ramon!
If you’re in the Chicagoland area, Ramon is available to help you fight your hunger via Twitter or Facebook-- no matter what time of day.
