Which mountain is the actual "paramount' in the Paramount movie logo?
The name of Paramount Pictures and its iconic logo of a mountain surrounded by 22 stars is a reference to a Hungarian myth commonly called "The Paramount Legend of Zukor."
It began in the kingdom of Ricese, which had machines but not so good as the machines of the nearby kingdom of Ix. The king of Ricese, lamenting the inferiority of his early industrial revolution, sent a merchant caravan to Ix to buy some of their machines, including looms, steam engines, and DRAM wafers. The caravan secured these things and successfully negotiated a trade system with Ix, but on the way home they were caught in a rare Hungarian Typhoon.
There was little shelter to be found so they sought refuge in the Mátra mountains. Still, none of the smooth ancient peaks provided much shelter. In that terrifying moment, St. Zukor The Spelunking Enthusiast found a cave in which to hide. It was not a cave ever noted on any map, but it was warm and well lit for a cave in ancient industrial times, and Zukor was hailed. They waited out the storm and returned to Hungary as heroes (pronounced Gyros).
The kingdom enjoyed a period of peace and exploration, including the exploration of philosophy, the exploration of science, and the exploration of each others bodies in what were called the "Évtizedek Simogatása." They also explored the Mátra mountain range, but could not find Zukor's cave. Zukor himself returned but couldn't find it, and as usual, faeries were suspected.
Zukor implored the 22 members of the fae council and its fae ruler, the Fae King Aurkasms. They admitted that they had indeed created an entire mountain for a brief time during the storm in which to hold their annual celebration of the Feast of Fae-est, where they performed the play Faust and other Fae Festivities (Faestivites). But Zukor was never supposed to see such things. Humans were strictly banned and to ensure that no humans would tread on the Fae Grounds again, he would have to volunteer to be imprisoned for all time.
He did so, and ensured a thriving peace for Hungary, which accordingly never had any political disagreements or problems ever again. So still to this day, Zukor lives bound within the mountain by the 22 fae who gleam as stars over around his living tomb.
This is very much like the contracts in which Adolph Zukor (no relation) kept his own movie stars in back in the early days of Hollywood. Of these contract players, only two escaped and died in sweet, sweet obscurity. The rest can be seen in their own tombs- The cinema, and on DVDs available at your local suncoast media play best buy target Barnes and Noble.
