Rick and Morty Season 3 Episode 10
A stupid and probably badly written analysis on the latest episode of Rick and Morty.
As much as how the anti climatic the ending is and how THEY NEVER SHOW EVIL MORTY, it does shows how much Rick cares in this episode.
I find it really cute that Rick actually tries so hard to get Morty a selfie with the president. Still, to be honest we can just probably see it as Rick wanting to win that's why he is so adamant in getting that selfie.
When he is on the phone Morty his expression had shown anger, and fierce determination to win, but after the phone call it changes into just a blank expression. He knew he did something wrong. He knew that maybe this is his last straw. And it is. His motivation to actually try to win against the president is just gone. He just let the president win even thought just a few moments before he wanted to prove that he's better so badly. Its just like Rick had come to a realization that at that short moment he just loss everything. His family, Beth, and Morty.
Of course he can just go to another universe, leave this universe be. After all, he's a genius. Still he decided to stay and went to solve the problems that he had created with his family. Why did he do that? Because he cares.
When he met them, what had taken me aback the most is what he said to Jerry. He actually told Jerry that he wins. Jerry won against Rick. We all know how much Rick contemn Jerry. For him to actually admits that Jerry wins make it just so much more special. He says that because Jerry, in a way, took everything away from. Well, not everything he can basically just go to another universe, but Jerry took everything that is 'important' to Rick away. He took the family he actually cared, his daughter, Summer, and Morty.
In the end, he said it himself asking why would he be in this universe, the universe where everything is fucked, he probably have a war with the president, he is now not the leader of his house, basically everything is shit so why would he stay? But he stayed. He stayed with everyone and the ending scene cuts to his face just wanting to probably kill himself. If this universe is so bad, why would Rick just go and find a new Morty in a new universe that is better? Its because he cares.
Also I kind of just realized that this season is quite 'incomplete'? Probably not incomplete, but its a weird way to end things. How things are now, since we follow Rick as a protagonist, in this episode is like the middle part of the story. Rick is facing with an obstacle, him having to go through each day seeing Jerry again and just in a sense limited to do anything. That is more like a conflict than a conclusion for the series. It might just be a build up for season 4 that's why the creators end it with no real resolution. Its a pretty interesting way to end to me. How well will it work though? We'll have to see.
A little side note: When Morty talks back to the president, Rick smiles and he looks so proud, its really cute haha.
