May just mess around and post a bunch of random character ideas, I have to put them all somewhere and I can’t make them All into d&d character sheets that I’m never going to use,

I have the sudden urge to make a Wizard Highwayman, her band of ‘merry men’ are all just illusions.

So I LOVE making d&d characters (filling put personal stories, weaving them into the world I'm trying to homebrew, figuring out what archetypes I want to explore next as a PC) and now that I have the Tal'Dorei Campaign Guide ALL I WANT TO DO is make characters for a game set in Matt Mercer's world.

A ravenite sorcerer with non-white scales that has the white dragon blood magic from when Vorugal reigned there.

A Blood Hunter acolyte of the Mother of Ravens who is trying to keep life, death, and fate on the right track even if it means giving up their own.

A dwarven urchin from Emon that did things they are not proud of in order to survive the past chaos. Perhaps ex-cultist.

A farmer from Whitestone that became obsessed with killing undead things once they were finally free enough to find out better ways to.

Also their cousin and former best friend, who was pulled in by the promises of the Whispered one.

I just have too many ideas from this book you guys.

RANDOM THING THAT HAS BEEN LIVING IN NY HEAD FOR DAYS AND I WANT TO WRITE BUT DEFINITELY WON'T

So I work at a restaurant right, and when we get remote takeaway orders it'll either have a code (Uber eats etc.) or a phone number (pickup by the person who made the order).

During an incredibly quiet shift my overactive brain went....what if

Character A: *Packing food and shit- notices the most annoyingly customised order that has like 17 things changed on one item so the kitchen people are dying*

Also Character A: What kind of person would order this? If i ever meet this hoe I'll give them a piece of my mind because this is actually unreasonable

This regular order keeps coming through every few days until about a month later.

Character B: Pickup for ______

Character A: (realizes its an in person pickup and they get to see the bastard with this bitchy ass order) It's YOU.

Character B looks confused and leaves but starts regularly picking up the food in person just to watch A get unreasonably mad about having to make/pack such a dumb order for such an annoying bitch.

I have no idea what would happen with this but I cant stop thinking about it so maybe...just maybe if I write it down the Ao3 gods will free my trapped soul.

fun thought exercise: how the Octopath Travelers might work in Smash Bros.

I tossed around a bunch of different ideas, like having them all occupy one character slot with the eight of them as alternate costumes like Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings, or maybe even having eight fully playable characters in one slot that you switch between with Down B like the Pokemon Trainer, but the one that made the most sense to me was, unfortunately, just choosing and focusing on one traveler, because having all eight fully playable even in a Bowser Jr. fashion is just unfeasible. That being said, if we can’t have all eight of ‘em, I think the best way to represent the game's teamwork and friendship themes would be to have the other seven come along to assist the main playable traveler in most of their moves.

Figured the traveler that made the most sense for that central role was Olberic.

“but waaaah there are too many swordfighters in smash--” shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. this is fun speculation. go away. N O B O D Y C A R E S.

So what would his moveset look like? I can tell ya right now it wouldn’t be a typical Fire Emblem swordsman.

Neutral A: Two-swipe sword combo, animated like his Cross Strike move.

Forward tilt: A heavy swing animated like his Level Slash move.

Up tilt: A fierce uppercut swing that goes from front-to-back, kind of like Roy’s and Chrom’s.

Down tilt: A typical sword sweep, like Ike’s and Link’s.

Forward Smash: Amputation. Now it gets interesting. Alfyn appears next to him, they both grab axes, wind-up, and deliver powerful two-handed blows. The windup is even longer than Ike’s but still faster than Dedede’s, though it is slightly weaker than both of those due to hitting twice like the Ice Climbers and deals similar damage and knockback to that smash.

Up smash: Night Ode. Primrose appears, Olberic high-fives her, and they cast a vortex of darkness above them, which looks and acts like Mewtwo’s up smash.

Down smash: Icewind. Cyrus and Alfyn appear on either side of him and both slam the ground, sending up a small wave of icicles on either side of Olberic. At very high percentages (like, above 150%), they have a chance to freeze enemies, though good luck freezing them at that percentage without outright killing them.

Grab: Therion. Instead of using his own hands or anything, Olberic signals and Therion pops up a few feet in front of him to grab the enemy from behind. Pummels consist of Olberic slamming his sword’s pommel into his foe’s stomach as Therion stabs them with his dagger, whereas throws consist of Therion blasting the foe in the indicated direction with a burst of flame.

Neutral air: a fierce burst of wind around him, cast by Tressa.

Forward air: A strong forward chop, like Ike’s.

Back air: A quick backhand slice, also like Ike’s.

Up air: Primrose, bracing herself on Olberic's back, swipes really fast with her dagger, similarly to Meta Knight's. It can be spammed.

Down air: H'aanit, carried by Olberic, rears up and delivers a powerful spike with her axe, like if Olimar swung a Pikmin but the Pikmin was carrying Ike’s sword.

Neutral special: Rain of Arrows. H’aanit appears and loads her bow. She can rapid-fire up to eight arrows in a row if you rapidly tap the button, or charge up any of those eight for a more powerful single arrow that gets infused with lightning. She acts independently of Olberic in that he can still move around the stage while she fires and/or charges, and she can be attacked to interrupt, though this does not damage Olberic himself.

Side special: Scholar Magic. Cyrus appears, raises a tome, and casts a spell. Can be charged. He has three levels of charge and each one sends up a bigger wave of flame, ice, or lightning, looking like the progression from Fireball -> Inferno -> Ignis Ardere (and the equivalent ice and lightning versions). He goes through those three elements in that order each successive time you make this input (as in, the first time you use it, it’s fire, the second it’s ice, and the third it’s lightning; this is all for aesthetic and has no impact on damage and knockback). Also acts independently of Olberic and can stand in place charging while Olberic moves around the stage, and can also be attacked to interrupt.

Up special: Tradewinds. Tressa appears above Olberic, grabs him, and throws him in the direction you input the stick, boosting him with her wind magic. Mechanically it would work like Fox and Ridley’s up B, but visually would entail a tiny teenage girl Fastball Special-ing a hefty muscular bear of a man, and try telling me that wouldn’t fucking rule.

Down Special: Reflective Veil + Abide. Ophilia appears and brings up a dome-like barrier around the two of them while Olberic charges up. It sort of acts like Incineroar’s Revenge and Palutena’s counter moves: a normal attack that lands during active frames will be reflected back and dealt a small amount of damage with a blast of light, whereas projectiles will be straight-up reflected, and if you do manage to counter an attack Olberic's sword absorbs the energy and his next sword attack (i.e., not any of the above moves that call on his friends) will be powered up. Acts independently too: Olberic can move around and leave the dome, leaving Ophilia and the shield in place as long as the button is held, but at that point it only reflects projectiles and won't power up Olberic's sword.

Final Smash: Winnehild’s Battle Cry, but modified to let the whole team do it. Olberic lunges forward with a stab. If he connects, Olberic dons the Warmaster outfit and shouts “Winnehild, fight with us!”, beginning with two fierce stabs from spears from him and Tressa, then a ninja-like cross-strike with Primrose and Therion’s daggers, a fierce uppercut with Alfyn’s axe, strike them in midair with a volley of arrows from H’aanit, blast them from above with Cyrus and Ophilia’s magic back down to the ground, and one final powerful slash with Olberic’s sword.

I like the idea of his specials being able to sort of be “deployed” while he moves around, which gives him greater control over the stage than a typical Fire Emblem swordsman. My only issue with this whole thing is that I wanted to represent each traveler in at least two moves, but couldn't figure out any other places for Therion and Ophilia, mostly because I also wanted to give him some sword moves so that it doesn’t seem like he can’t do anything without his friends. Therion and Ophilia have some of the more unique implementation though, so I think that kiiinda balances out?

Anyway this will never happen, but like I said, this is just a fun thought exercise. I’d just be happy if any of the travelers are Spirits, honestly. But knowing Squeenix and how weirdly protective they are of their shit, even that seems unlikely. I guess I’ll have to settle for making Olberic a Mii Fighter.
