Yesterday started reading Fulgrim and I already can notice how my man's been advancing his personality toward the corruption, even before that damned sword.
In Palatine Phoenix, Fulgrim is portrayed as more of a rookie, trying to break on his own and to prove his abilities and worth to his Father, brothers and galaxy. He is enthusiastic idealist, with grand dream and stubborness to see it achieved, despite his shattered and weak legion, and yet he is humble and kind, alowing these qualities of his shine past carefully built image of collected greater being. There is still a lot more of old Chemosian Fulgrim, the boy who saved his dying world, in him than there are of Phoenician, son of Emperor. He's still a boy, who feels insecure, but realises he has to strive to better himself and learn from his mistakes. Fulgrim also allows his temper and anger to shine more raw, struggling to contain it. In any sense given, even his looks, he's still a young gun with a quick fuse (to quote Imagine Dragons).
However in Fulgrim, he is now veteran Primarch, now proud leader of his fully recovered and powerful legion. He no longer has to strive to be acknowledged among his brothers, because now he is acknowledged as equal, even if he strives for more. He became more precise in his actions, more collected. Nowadays he is all Phoenician, son of Emperor. He is more ambitious, more hungry for new victories, but now he seems to be more sure of his worth, at least in the eyes of others. He also has constructed his image mpre carefully, now managing to control his outbursts. No longer they are raw; now Fulgrim's anger is his weapon just as his smiles. He learned much more to use his image and stature to control the situation to his favor. Fulgrim also seems to become less openly kind to people, loosing his youthful naive honesty to more carefully collected openess. He chooses carefully what to show.
Fulgrim has changed over decades as Emperor's Primarch and to be honest I no longer see Laerian blade as thing who cursed him, it just gaslit his worst qualities to become his best.
