DRUMMER + BASS
Inspired by suffering through one too many whack DJ sets and dreamed up in a drunken haze, DRUMMER+BASS is a funky new collaboration between filmmaker Adam Leao, DJ Brian Polar and his Random Citizens band mate and drummer, Brian Vazifdar.
The video features Polar's live, bass-heavy remix of several tunes complimented by the pounding breaks of Vazifdar's drums. In an era of watered down, nursery school drum loops, it is especially refreshing to hear such a devastating combination of digital and live sound. Leao's creative camerawork and disciplined editing lends the video its unique tone and also does well to highlight Vazifdar's technical prowess. By refraining from the overuse of the jump cut, which plagues modern visual art (are you taking notes, film students?), Leao makes us bear witness to the musicianship and skill of the R. Citi boys and the result is a music video that is *gasp* all about the music. "It was a fun, experimental video" says Leao, "I think we're going to continue making them with the same attitude and style while we explore new musical themes." Fox + Hound certainly hopes they do and looks forward to all future efforts by these three talents.
