Pathfinder Kingmaker: Ranger Pet
I know I’m totally going to regret picking mammoth mastodon, but it was JUST TOO FUNNY NOT TO. I am resigned to the fact that it’s probably going to get stuck in doorways or hallways or tunnels. And will get in the way of all my melee classes. Also at lvl 7 it’ll grow bigger.
I just got it at lvl 4. We’ll see if it drives me totally insane by the next lvl. Odds are high this will happen.
Oddly I played ranger months ago when the game was released and still really buggy (I stopped playing rather than risk the bugs, enjoyed it anyhow, now replaying) - but I think I chose a non pet ranger. Which was silly because you get a choice of 9 pet types, which is kind of ridiculous.
The new Ranger pets. Cheetah is my favorite in design. I sadily can’t actually play on the spec until tonight but so far I’m impressed.
Naming my Ranger Pets on GW2 so far:
River Drake = Rabaya Shark = Chompy II Jungle Spider = Mayday Lashtail Devourer = Lamie Fern Hound = Caesar
and that’s all for now. All of them have a hidden meaning. If you can discover them, you’re awesome :D
Ranger / Druid Pets of Guild Wars 2.
Here are a few that have been mentioned on the blog. Dinosaurs, Tigers, and Wyverns, Oh My! Upon entering the lush Maguuma jungle, you’ll encounter many new creatures. Some are fierce, some are friendly, a few are both…and among them are new potential pets for all rangers! If you find them, these are a few possible allies you may befriend: Smokescale: This feral saurian can create a field of smoke to hide in to evade enemies. Bristleback: This spine-covered beast has grown talented at rending foes in the brutal jungle. Tiger: This former ruler of the wilds inspires allies with its graceful pounce. Electric Wyvern: This deadly beast knows how to use its head, charging headlong into the fray. Fire Wyvern: This fiery winged ally enjoys its meat well charred. https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/meet-the-druid-rangers-elite-specialization/ http://dulfy.net/2015/09/25/gw2-druid-ranger-elite-specialization-livestream-reveal/
Some GW2 Ranger notes
Testing out the Porcine pets (been having fun with the Warthog).
So far, I think it leans a bit toward the ‘tank’ end of the scale, but may more properly be classed as ‘support’. The Porcine pets can take damage, though I’m not entirely sure yet where they rank on dishing it out.
The real benefit to the Porcine pets is the “forage” ability. This is, on the face of it, a pain in the butt sort of ability. The pig finds you things! Okay, yeah, so?
The pig finds you things that cause status effects. So, basically, the pig pet’s power is “random status effect you can choose to use - or not”. As such, I’m suspecting the porcine pets are best used when in groups, when a few more status effects on a boss may be just the ticket.
On individual adventuring, Porcine seems to be about on par with Wolf - less tanky than a bear, but more DPSy than a bear. Tougher than a cat, but a bit slower than a cat.
Anyone else have different results?
So I’m trying to get to 80 before all these changes to skill points kick in, because in all the forum stuff I can’t find any confirmation that those of us who haven’t been around long enough to have accumulated More Skill Points Than God will actually be able to ever earn enough skill points to finish buying the skills otherwise.
And meantime I’m sort of compiling a list of “when each pet class is best to use”.
Notes so far:
Bears: Great against Risen. Risen love to swarm. Send the bear in, get it to gather all the aggro, then AoE from a safe distance.
Birds: The bigger they are, the better birds seem to do against them. This appears to apply across enemy types - big Risen, big giants, birds seem to do best in terms of “giving the most damage while taking the least damage”.
Cats: A pretty solid go-to for every day adventuring. They do damage quickly, and can handle at least a little bit of extra mob action (at least, so far my cats have rarely been KO’d when outnumbered by standard foes.) They do not do well when enemies do a lot of damage in one go and/or swarm - at that point go for a bear.
Still working out when wolves and pigs are best. Haven’t really tried sorting out the aquatics yet.
