I’ve had this idea in my head for a while. It’s after the reveal that she’s from the future, but she’s still trying to maintain some semblance of a secret identity. She’s very good at acting obtuse in the same way Booster was good at acting like a fool. Everyone knows it’s at least somewhat an act, but how much of it is?
I also chose to use Irey here because she’s one of only a handful of heroes I know that are in the same generation as Rani that has an adult design. I took some inspiration from the design and altered it a bit to look more Kid Flash-esque. She’s actually a few years older than Rani (18), but she’s the current Kid Flash… or at least in the early stages of transitioning away from Kid Flash. This AU isn’t 1:1 with the comics, so there’s a different kind of age fuckery and multiverses crises going on in this earth’s history. Wally and Linda got to raise the twins to an extent here.
Also also… In this earth, there was a government initiative to remove all superheroes from written record. While it wasn’t exactly successful, by the 22nd century, Booster Gold and most of the non-A-list heroes from the 20th century had faded out of natural memory in the aftermath. Rani isn’t lying about finding that jacket in the trash. It’s still her prized possession.
