Egg carrying. Biologie der Tiere. Animal Biology. 1913.
Ranid species that practice egg-carrying differntly.
a (Alytes obstetricans, the midwife toad) — unusually, it's the male who wraps the egg strings around his hind legs and carries them until hatching.
b (Rhacophorus reticulatus) — the female carries a clutch of large eggs embedded in the skin of her back.
c (Arthroleptis seychellensis) — again a male carrier; the larvae appear to be sheltered against his body.
d (Hylodes lineatus) — the female carries what appear to be relatively advanced larvae or eggs along her flanks.
