I'm obsessing over which house I belong in - first I got sorted into Slytherin and I almost had a heart attack because I never identified with them at all, and I felt like the questions were unfair. Then I made another account (I'll delete the first, don't worry!) and got put into Ravenclaw. I really think Ravenclaw is my true house, because I always thought I'd be in there or maybe Hufflepuff, but I wanted you to analyse me anyway. Maybe I do have a Slytherin side, lol. (I do like water, and I do like animals. I don't know if that would skew me more for Slytherin or Hufflepuff than would otherwise be the case.)

I did answer honestly both times - if it sorted me into Slytherin again I was just going to accept that's where I belong, haha.

FWIW, that Slytherin Sorting's definitely super-super-close: if you'd pulled piano there and kept everything else the same, you'd be Ravenclaw on that one as well. (Heck, even pulling left instead of dusk would probably have done it; it's the dusk-black combo that's driving it to Slytherin.) The Claw one is much more Claw overall (though in practice moon tends to be Slyth/Gryff, you got points for Slyth/Claw.)

So I'd DEFINITELY say that you're more Ravenclaw than Slytherin (especially given that the advantage on Q2 is given by Merlin's box, #1 in Claw and Slyth.) Looking at this, there's no question about it: Claw is 1st, Puff might actually be 2nd, Slyth 3rd, Gryff last (though Slyth/Puff are close. I'd call this more Puff than Slyth, but the propensity for Slytherin Q4, which is heavily weighted overall, might produce more Slytherin Sortings; it's hard to know without doing a large sample size of Sortings in practice.) But no question, Ravenclaw is #1 and you should see it most often. 

Fairest sorting: ignorant, black visions, hunger, apparition, cobbles, river, left probably goes narrowly Slytherin, but might Hatstall; water is driving it as a Slytherin Sorting. (All things considered, you're definitely more Claw than Slyth, so I wouldn't worry about this too much.) 

Second-fairest, ignoring the scents, which you dislike: The Wise, piano, CBR, talk to animals, ask why, dusk, heads - DEFINITELY Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff's in 2nd place; the only Slyth in this is in (6).

Hathawayne Ranked Sorting

Hi :) I've taken the sorting for many times ,  well, after that I deleted the accounts. I am very often sorted to Ravenclaw and many Slytherins but less than Ravenclaws , occasionally Gryffindor and Hufflepuff. At first, I am very very sure about being a Ravenclaw but later on I'm not that sure. Since, at the first time I was sorted, I was sorted to Ravenclaw. Before the sorting, I always thought I was a Gryffindor. Well, I mean everybody wants to be in Gryffindor. However, I was quite happy about it and I've done a lot of researches of Ravenclaw. And after all those researches I think that oh yeah perhaps I'm really a Ravenclaw , I love to read books , creative most of the time , clever sometimes but not very clever but I think it still suits into the characteristics of Ravenclaws. And I always got sorted to Slytherin too, I think this is explainable since I am cunning sometimes and ambitious but I don't want to be too evil. However, I've been doing the sortings recently again and I got sorted to Gryffindor and Hufflepuff a lot more than usual. So my mind of being a Ravenclaw/Slytherclaw has been shaken. And one more thing, I didn't get any hatstall except one time I got a Huff/Slyth hatstall, which was very strange in my opinion. I didn't remember which house I chose at that hatstall. And I want to ask a question, after all those researches , I discovered that Ravenclaw and Slytherin got a lot of similarities, sometimes I even think that they are just same. (eg. Cunning - Wit <- I think these characters are almost same.) So is there any special/particular character that separated these two houses? The fact that you've only gotten a Slytherpuff Hatstall isn't surprising: Hatstalls do not occur with equal frequency on Pottermore due to some quirk of the scoring algorithm, and Slytherpuff Hatstalls are several times more common than any other kind. Imagination, wit, creativity: those are all as important to Ravenclaws as applied intelligence. Ravenclaws are much more individualistic: they don't care so much what others think.

Meanwhile, Slytherins can be very intelligent, but they're ambitious: they have to do something with that intelligence for it to be worthwhile, and that goal usually involves power and recognition from others. They're more past/tradition-oriented, group-oriented, and more willing to engage in conflict and confrontation.

Q2 is all over the place - could be anything, a tiny lean to Ravenclaw

Q3 is either Slytherclaw (with emphasis on Slyth) or Gryffinslyth (with emphasis on Gryff) but keep in mind that the Gryffinslyth answer is on a question where you'll never give a Ravenclaw answer. Ravenclaws don't give the Ravenclaw answer!

Q4 is mostly Ravenslyth, with the edge to Ravenclaw. (My guess is that when you're getting Gryff Sortings, you're getting praised/centaurs and pulling your rarer Gryff answers - because you can on Q2, 5, 6, and 7, and having a quiz where you happen to get just some of those will turn it Gryff.) 

Q5 is again majority-Claw, but with a significant amount of Gryff and one Puff. (Again, my guess for your Puff Sortings is that you're just happening to draw a Puff Q1/2/5/6/7 - particularly right instead of a Claw-leaning Q7 - and pulling not so many Claw answers on that question set.) 

Q6 is all over, but leans a bit Puff or Gryff in terms of odds. 

Q7 is definitely Huffleclaw overall - you'll always pick the Puff answer and pick the Claw one 2/3 of the time.

So actually I think your self-assessment as Ravenclaw/Slytherin is right - and I'd say Ravenclaw gets #1 overall, Slytherin #2, Hufflepuff #3, and Gryffindor #4, with it being fairly close between Gryff and Puff. It's just not a good question - nobody cares about the records (records>book>cure is the least-picked question on this ENTIRE QUIZ) and everybody wants the cure first in general, so that this question doesn't actually work to separate out people.

And another HUGELY PROBLEMATIC QUESTION. Seriously, worst question on the exam. You've actually just ranked these in the order that they're chosen overall. (What makes this worse is that Q3 is heavily weighted compared to 1,2,5,6,7 and 2/3 of the Q3s are badly biased.) But this one is the worst. Atm, 40% of people pick trusted - this number would be higher if I didn't have a predominantly Slytherclaw quiz population. Trusted is picked by over 50% of Ravenclaws (and Gryffs and Puffs); it's the #2 answer in Slytherin (to praised), and imitated is the only Ravenclaw answer and a horrible answer, both in terms of Ravenclaws being least-likely to pick it and in terms of it being in 4th place in Ravenclaw. And nobody picks feared, so there's a Slytherin option out the window - but they get secondary on praised and all of envied, so this isn't as bad for them. But really, utterly horrible question - trusted + praised = 60-66% of all results, trusted + praised + liked = 75% - it's super-biased, first towards Gryff and then to Puff.

No problem! I like commentary - it can help on close Sortings. Q1 leans Claw, Q2 Slyth (Slytherclaw if the box changed), Q3 Gryff, Q4 Claw, Q5 Huffleclaw, Q6 Huffledor, Q7 Ravenslyth.

So overall, I'm going to say you're one of those people who's not going to ever get a consistent Sorting (you split on too many questions, but most people do, it's not like it's a flaw or anything.) 

Overall, I'd rank Ravenclaw 1, a close toss-up between Gryff and Slyth for 2, and Hufflepuff 3, but you'll probably see all of them at some point (or would if you took the quiz a lot, particularly Gryff and Slyth.) I'd say you have the most 'Claw, even considering the problems with certain questions. After that, the quiz probably would give you Gryff more often but really you're a Slytherdor split for #2, and either is pretty likely. You're not going to see Hufflepuff a lot because your Puff answers cluster in Q5. You're definitely Slytherin #1, Ravenclaw #2, Hufflepuff #3, Gryffindor #4 (well, in practice of what you're more likely to get, probably switch Puff and Gryff - it's easier to get a Gryff Sorting because your answers are more spread out over more questions, but in terms of overall, you have more Hufflepuff answers and are less likely to rank Puff options last except in circumstances where everyone does, like trolls or superstrength.) A Gryffindor Sorting is not impossible - trusted/invisibility/eye at keyhole/forest/black or tails puts it easily in reach - but it's also not a good fit. Hi, I recently discovered your blog and I really love what you are doing with analyzing the Pottermore Sorting Hat quiz. I was a beta user and sorted into Ravenclaw, and would like to enter my data into the pool. I was pretty much a self-decided Ravenclaw since the moment I read the Sorting Hat chapter in PS/SS, and my belief was confirmed but almost all of the sorting quizzes I've ever took. Plus, the college I recently graduated from is like a muggle, American version of the Ravenclaw house, so I would like to think that I'm an archetypical Ravenclaw, and I hope my answers to the Sorting questions help with your analysis. Thanks! Overall, I have to confirm that you DEFINITELY belong in Ravenclaw; Ravenclaw is your #1 House by a mile. After that, Gryffindor is #2, Slytherin #3, Hufflepuff last. However, you do have to consider that there is a distinct pro-Gryffindor, anti-Slytherin bias to this quiz, which may affect how you have Gryff in 2nd place in terms of answers but identify more with Slytherin. (Seriously, outside the troll-fighting question, none of the Slytherin answers for Q5 are very fair - draw wand/stand ground, the silly voice, and jinxing the Muggle all have only about 6% of people overall and often rank last even in Slytherin House. Slyth also has issues with unpopular rankings - feared being a Slytherin answer, having cure-last, 2/3 of the least popular creatures, and hexes and jinxes: all of that adds up to some problems with Slytherin answers being overall less appealing than Gryffindor (which gets trusted + praised, the cure-first order, the top 3 creatures, stars, the twisty forest path, etc.)

Puff is dead last - it's still possible (the good/trusted or loneliness/no one or caution/dusk or river) but would obviously be very rare, especially as you'd have to rely on not pulling a Slyth Q2. Slytherin's definitely going to come up the most.

Pottermore Sorting Hat Analysis Request for Phoenix and Cedar

Hey! I was wondering if you'd be willing to do a sorting analysis for me.  When I read the books, I was absolutely convinced that Gryffindor was for me; no other house would do.  Then I went on Pottermore, started paying more attention to the other houses, read way too much about each of the qualities the Houses have, and took the Sorting Hat quiz.  I freaked out the first couple of times I took it and closed the page half way through the quiz.  Then I got a Slytherpuff Hat Stall, and couldn't choose. Once I finally took the quiz all the way through I got sorted once into Hufflepuff, and once into Ravenclaw.  As of right now, I haven't got a clue where I actually belong. Sorry if that was a bit long and thank you for any help you can offer! =]

 Puff > Slyth > Gryff > Claw. The reasoning you gave for the Puff box is really purely Hufflepuff - very very much so - and the Ravenclaw box tends to be disfavored because it's the only one with a downside. (Right now, 'Claws are running about 41-37 in favor of the gold box over Merlin's, but it's a really narrow margin; the golden box is definitely unpopular overall.)

Overall, Claws are defined by putting the records last (and then by liking the book most); Gryffs are defined by cure-first (and then by disliking the records); Puffs are defined by book-last (and then by wanting cure-first), and Slyths are defined by cure-last (and then by preferring the book to the records.)

Which would you rather be?

Trusted>Liked>Praised>Imitated>Envied>Feared (I would rather be respected then all of these, I was surprised it wasn’t included actually)

 This is a HORRIBLE question. Forgive the rant here, but consider that I have far more Ravenclaw + Slytherin surveys than Gryff + Puff. Trusted is the #1 answer for all Houses but Slyth (where it's #2 to praised) and praised is in the top 2 for every House but Puff. Trusted makes up over 40% of the total at this point (and would be closer to 50% if I had more Gryffinpuffs); it's chosen by over 50% of 'Claws although they get no points for it; and trusted + praised = 60-66% of all surveys. Trusted + praised + liked are the top 3 for every House save Slytherin (where liked and envied tend to vie for the spot) and trusted + praised + liked = 75% of all surveys. The Gryffinpuff answers account for over 75% of all answers even though Gryffinpuffs account for probably less than 40% of all surveys! Ravenclaw has no good answers (imitated is #4/6 among Ravenclaws - and a larger percentage of Puffs and Slyths pick imitated than Claws) and Slyth gets stuck with envied and feared. Envied's not wholly terrible, but feared certainly is! 

Just...argh, I'm a typical trusted-first, feared-last person, but this question is TERRIBLE. It does nothing to separate out people; instead, it just steers people away from Ravenclaw (and to a lesser extent Slytherin.)

Change the past tends to be something a lot of people put last (along with read minds - it's either love or hate) but you rank talking to animals and superstrength a lot higher than the vast majority of people. (Superstrength tends to be last for people who think change past/read minds are interesting/worth the risk, and change appearance is massively popular among all but Hufflepuff.)

** No question in my mind - you're a Ravenclaw #1. (I'm betting the Puff result was produced with "trusted," and that Slytherpuff involved merpeople. I note that you have merpeople + river + a pretty high sea ranking; part of any Slyth sorting you'll likely get is that love of water.) Am slightly surprised you haven't seen a Gryff Sorting - cowardly/fire/trusted/broom flying or invisibility/eye or confront classmate/dawn/black would do it, and you don't even need all of those to do it.) You can definitely draw every single House with your results, and are one of those people who won't be getting a solidly consistent result (as you've already discovered!) But I do think you definitely should be Ravenclaw overall/most often: the cure ordering, being ignored, the majority-Claw answers on 1, 2, and 5, heads/left/dawn - it's all very 'Claw overall. Really, the only question where you don't show Ravenclaw is #4 - and the 'Claw answers tend to fall just short of #1 (all 3 of your #2 answers on Q4 have some Ravenclaw weight!) 

Ranking the other Houses gets harder - it's a definite close competition between Slytherin and Gryffindor, with invisibility (and trusted, argh) and the bits of Gryff on 1 and 5 - but balanced against the quiz's innate bias towards Gryff/away from Slytherin. Ultimately, I think I'd still probably rank Gryff as #2 but you might be more likely to get Slytherin; I'm placing Slyth as #3 based mostly on your Slyth answers being either tied to Ravenclaw (cure order, being ignored, moon, left) or water-based (merpeople, river), which means that in terms of traits you probably show more Gryff - but are more likely during the course of this quiz to be Sorted Slytherin, because there will be times when you get merpeople and black and that tips you into Slytherin over Ravenclaw.

Hufflepuff, despite your drawing a Slytherpuff Hatstall and a Puff Sorting, comes in last - I'm betting that the Hufflepuff Sorting involved the squeaky box/trusted/broom flying. There are teeny bits and pieces of Puff here and there, but I'm not really feeling it as a House, nor really is there much overall.
