misohead Ranked Sorting
I'm obsessing over which house I belong in - first I got sorted into Slytherin and I almost had a heart attack because I never identified with them at all, and I felt like the questions were unfair. Then I made another account (I'll delete the first, don't worry!) and got put into Ravenclaw. I really think Ravenclaw is my true house, because I always thought I'd be in there or maybe Hufflepuff, but I wanted you to analyse me anyway. Maybe I do have a Slytherin side, lol. (I do like water, and I do like animals. I don't know if that would skew me more for Slytherin or Hufflepuff than would otherwise be the case.)
For your statistics:
Slytherin sorting - Q1: ignorant, Q2: small creature box, Q3: hunger, Q4: apparition, Q5: withdraw into the shadows, Q6: dusk, Q7: black
Ravenclaw sorting - Q1: wisdom, Q2: piano, Q3: trusted, Q4: merpeople, Q5: confuse the troll, Q6: moon, Q7: left.
I did answer honestly both times - if it sorted me into Slytherin again I was just going to accept that's where I belong, haha.
FWIW, that Slytherin Sorting's definitely super-super-close: if you'd pulled piano there and kept everything else the same, you'd be Ravenclaw on that one as well. (Heck, even pulling left instead of dusk would probably have done it; it's the dusk-black combo that's driving it to Slytherin.) The Claw one is much more Claw overall (though in practice moon tends to be Slyth/Gryff, you got points for Slyth/Claw.)
Q1:
Which of the following would you most hate people to call you?
Ignorant>>>Ordinary>Selfish>Cowardly
People calling me "selfish" and "cowardly" is like - yeah, I know I am, whatever.
Claw >>> Slyth > Puff > Gryff
Wanting ignorant as your #1 is a hugely Claw trait - Claws hew to their answer much more highly than the other Houses.
After you have died, what would you most like people to do when they hear your name?
Miss you, but smile>Ask for more stories about your adventures>Think with admiration of your achievements>I don’t care what people think of me after I’m dead; it’s what they think of me while I’m alive that counts
Puff > Gryff > Claw > Slyth
Given the choice, would you rather invent a potion that would guarantee you:
Wisdom>Love>Power>Glory
(this does, as you mention, depend on whether this is a sort of love potion mentioned in the books, or just something that would naturally guarantee I always have people to genuinely love me of their own free will. If it was the latter I'd probably put it first)
Claw > Puff > Slyth > Gryff. I think it's supposed to be the latter and therefore would probably go first, but it depends on your interpretation of the question.
How would you like to be known to history?
The Wise>The Good>The Bold>The Great
Claw > Puff > Gryff > Slyth
So it depends on your interpretation of love. As it is, this is 3 Claw/1 Puff, but it might divide evenly, depending.
Q2:
You enter an enchanted garden. What would you be most curious to examine first?
The bubbling pool, in the depths of which something luminous is swirling>The fat red toadstools that appear to be talking to each other>The silver leafed tree bearing golden apples>The statue of an old wizard with a strangely twinkling eye
Slyth > Puff > Claw > Gryff
What kind of instrument most pleases your ear?
The piano>The violin>The drum>>>The trumpet
I really like piano and violin pretty much equally though. This would depend on my mood. I just don't like trumpets.
Claw > Slyth > Gryff >> Puff (This is my ranking!)
Four boxes are placed before you. Which would you try and open?
The small tortoiseshell box, embellished with gold, inside which some small creature seems to be squeaking>>>The gleaming jet black box with a silver lock and key, marked with a mysterious rune that you know to be the mark of Merlin>The small pewter box, unassuming and plain, with a scratched message upon it that reads ‘I open only for the worthy’>>>The ornate golden casket, standing on clawed feet, whose inscription warns that both secret knowledge and unbearable temptation lie within
Puff >>> Slyth > Gryff >>>> Claw
Nobody likes the Claw box, including Claws (who gravitate to Merlin instead.)
Four goblets are placed before you. Which would you choose to drink?
The mysterious black liquid that gleams like ink, and gives off fumes that make you see strange visions>The smooth, thick, richly purple drink that gives off a delicious smell of chocolate and plums>The foaming, frothing, silvery liquid that sparkles as though containing ground diamonds>The golden liquid so bright that it hurts the eye, and which makes sunspots dance all around the room
I can have chocolate any time, right? But visions? Cool. As long as they weren't horrible visions (from the fumes already) and this is presuming that none of the drinks would kill me.
Slyth > Puff > Claw > Gryff; Slyth's is highly specific for Slytherins.
Once every century, the Flutterby bush produces flowers that adapt their scent to attract the unwary. If it lured you, it would smell of:
A crackling log fire>The sea>Home>Fresh parchment
Ugh, I hate this question though. I don't feel sure about the ranking at all.
Gryff > Slyth > Puff > Claw. Hmmr - that's going to mess up your 2nd-fairest question sorting a bit, as this is the 2nd-fairest Q2 (the boxes are worst; the garden is 2nd-worst; instrument is pretty dang bad because of the favoritism to piano/violin overall, but at least trumpet and drum are still #1 in Puff and Gryff, respectively.)
Q3:
A troll has gone berserk in the Headmaster’s study at Hogwarts. It is about to smash, crush and tear several irreplaceable items and treasures, including a cure for dragon pox, which the Headmaster has nearly perfected; student records going back 1000 years and a mysterious handwritten book full of strange runes, believed to have belonged to Merlin. In which order would you rescue these objects from the troll’s club, if you could?
Dragon Pox Cure>Merlin's Book>>>Student Records
Fuck the records, honestly. It really depends if the cure for dragon pox would be something that would be easy to make up again though... but hey, I treasure vaccinations and cures in real life, so that's my instinct.
Gryff primary/Claw secondary; the problem is that EVERYBODY picks this.
Which would you rather be:
Trusted>Praised>Liked>Envied>Imitated>Feared
Huffledor > Gryffinslyth > Puff > Slytherclaw > Claw > Slyth
The problem is, this is the worst question EVER. Your #1 is, again, EVERYBODY'S #1. (And trusted/praised/liked = over 75% of the total answers.) Ravenclaw has no good option - they're least-likely to pick envied or imitated!
Which of the following do you find most difficult to deal with?
Hunger>Being ignored>Loneliness>Boredom>Cold
Cannot function while hungry.
I agree. Though it's unusual to split hunger/cold.
Huffleclaw > Slytherclaw > Huffledor > Gryffinslyth > Slytherpuff
Q4:
What are you most looking forward to learning at Hogwarts?
Apparition and Disapparition>All about magical creatures, and how to befriend/care for them>Every area of magic I can>Flying on a broomstick>Secrets about the castle>Hexes and jinxes
Slytherdor > Hufflepuff > Ravenslyth > Gryffinpuff > Gryff > Slyth
If you could have any power, which would you choose?
The power to speak to animals>The power to change your appearance at will>The power of invisibility>The power to change the past>The power of superhuman strength>>>The power to read minds
Huffleclaw > Slytherclaw > Gryff > Slytherdor > Puff >>> Ravenslyth
Interestingly enough, read minds is usually either a strong want or a strong DO NOT WANT; there's generally little middle ground.
Which of the following would you most like to study?
Merpeople>Ghosts>Werewolves>Goblins>Vampires>Centaurs>Trolls
Slyth > Gryffinclaw > Huffledor > Slytherclaw > Slytherpuff > Ravendor > Puff
With all the attendant problems (water = Slyth; Slyth has 4-5-6; ghosts should be Ravenpuff; centaurs should be Gryffinclaw; Ravenclaw LOVES werewolves; nobody picks trolls ever)
Q5:
One of your house mates has cheated in a Hogwarts exam by using a Self-Spelling Quill. Now he has come top of the class in Charms, beating you into second place. Professor Flitwick is suspicious of what happened. He draws you to one side after his lesson and asks you whether or not your classmate used a forbidden quill. What do you do?
Tell Professor Flitwick the truth. If your classmate is prepared to win by cheating, he deserves to be found out. Also, as you are both in the same house, any points he loses will be regained by you, for coming first in his place>You would not wait to be asked to tell Professor Flitwick the truth. If you knew that somebody was using a forbidden quill, you would tell the teacher before the exam started>Tell Professor Flitwick that he ought to ask your classmate (and resolve to tell your classmate that if he doesn’t tell the truth, you will)>>>Lie and say you don’t know (but hope that somebody else tells Professor Flitwick the truth)
Claw > Slyth > Gryff >>> Puff
You and two friends need to cross a bridge guarded by a river troll who insists on fighting one of you before he will let all of you pass. Do you:
Attempt to confuse the troll into letting all three of you pass without fighting>Suggest that all three of you should fight (without telling the troll)>>>Volunteer to fight>>>Suggest drawing lots to decide which of you will fight
Claw > Slyth >>> Gryff >>> Puff
Overall popularity = your rankings.
Which road tempts you most?
The cobbled street lined with ancient buildings>>>>The narrow, dark, lantern-lit alley>The twisting, leaf-strewn path through woods>The wide, sunny, grassy lane
Claw >>> Slyth > Gryff > Puff
Which nightmare would frighten you most?
An eye at the keyhole of the dark, windowless room in which you are locked>Standing on top of something very high and realizing suddenly that there are no hand- or footholds, nor any barrier to stop you falling>Waking up to find that neither your friends nor your family have any idea who you are>Being forced to speak in such a silly voice that hardly anyone can understand you, and everyone laughs at you
Assuming these are purely bad dreams, not what I would least like to happen tomorrow.
I make the same assumption for this question, so I think it's reasonable - it's which nightmare would you fear most, not which reality situation.
Gryff > Claw > Puff > Slyth. However, note that in reality Claw goes for the eye and Slyth goes for the heights.
Late at night, walking alone down the street, you hear a peculiar cry that you believe to have a magical source. Do you:
Withdraw into the shadows to await developments, while mentally reviewing the most appropriate defensive and offensive spells, should trouble occur>>>Proceed with caution, keeping one hand on your concealed wand and an eye out for any disturbance>>>Draw your wand and stand your ground>>>Draw your wand and try to discover the source of the noise
Claw >>> PUff >>> Slyth >>> Gryff
A Muggle confronts you and says that they are sure you are a witch or wizard. Do you:
Ask what makes them think so>Agree, and walk away, leaving them to wonder whether you are bluffing>>>Tell them that you are worried about their mental health, and offer to call a doctor>Agree, and ask whether they’d like a free sample of a jinx
Claw > Gryff >>> Puff >>>> Slyth; reflects overall popularity
Q6:
Dusk>Dawn - Huffleslyth > Ravendor
Moon>Stars - Slytherclaw > Huffledor (but Claw should get stars, Gryff moon)
River>>>Forest - Slytherpuff > Gryffinclaw
Q7:
Black>White - Slytherdor > Huffleclaw
Heads>Tails - Ravenpuff > Gryffinslyth
Left>Right - Ravenslyth > Gryffinpuff
Thanks for your time!
Overall:
Q1 - 3 Claw, 1 Puff (possibly 2/2 if love)
Q2 - 2 Slyth, 1 of each other House
Q3 - Gryffinclaw, Huffledor, Huffleclaw; fairest of these is Huffleclaw
Q4 - Slytherdor, Slytherin, Huffleclaw
Q5 - 5 Claw, 1 Gryff; interestingly enough, that 1 Gryff is the 1 Gryff where over 40% of Claws give the Gryff answer
Q6 - Always Slyth, mostly Puff, some Claw
Q7 - 50/50 Puff/Claw, 33% Slyth/Gryff
So I'd DEFINITELY say that you're more Ravenclaw than Slytherin (especially given that the advantage on Q2 is given by Merlin's box, #1 in Claw and Slyth.) Looking at this, there's no question about it: Claw is 1st, Puff might actually be 2nd, Slyth 3rd, Gryff last (though Slyth/Puff are close. I'd call this more Puff than Slyth, but the propensity for Slytherin Q4, which is heavily weighted overall, might produce more Slytherin Sortings; it's hard to know without doing a large sample size of Sortings in practice.) But no question, Ravenclaw is #1 and you should see it most often.
Fairest sorting: ignorant, black visions, hunger, apparition, cobbles, river, left probably goes narrowly Slytherin, but might Hatstall; water is driving it as a Slytherin Sorting. (All things considered, you're definitely more Claw than Slyth, so I wouldn't worry about this too much.)
Second-fairest, ignoring the scents, which you dislike: The Wise, piano, CBR, talk to animals, ask why, dusk, heads - DEFINITELY Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff's in 2nd place; the only Slyth in this is in (6).
Hope that helps assuage any doubts! I'd definitely call you much more of a Claw than a Slyth; even without considering how heavily your Slyth Sortings are water-driven (pool, merpeople, river can produce a Slyth Sorting alone!) you still have more overall Ravenclaw on the Sorting throughout.
