location: aglaia’s living room ( bed-stuy, brooklyn )
aglaia’s roommate was suspiciously gone for the evening. it’s the small blessings, she thought to herself, silently thanking whatever omniscient entity that was looking out for her. things had been tense around their place of living, and any escape from that took a large weight off of her shoulders. besides, an unlikely encounter from a week ago made the living room a necessity for the evening. she could have had her guest over in her bedroom, but laying on a bed with a stranger that she met at a movie theater might be awkward.
her invitation came from a place of loneliness. aglaia’s friends from her days of being twenty and reckless in brooklyn had dispersed, as far as she knew, and it left her feeling isolated. not that she minded most of the time, but there were fleeting moments where it would creep up on her and cause her to do things like invite strangers to a place that wasn’t even hers. he seems alright enough, she had thought at the time. and he did. he was relatively polite in their post-movie conversation, and that was a good sign, right ? anyways, aglaia had pursued far more dangerous activities.
so, a text had been sent out to the stranger who called himself noel with aglaia’s temporary address and some explanation on where to go when he came upon the general area. she wasn’t quite sure what to expect, so an array of snacks and various alcoholic beverages ranging from wine to peanut butter whiskey sat atop the kitchen counter. awaiting his arrival on the living room sofa, aglaia reminded herself, be nice, aggie.
