Fan fiction is fun but I really crave romance that exists outside of tropes. So much of the romance world presses on with overdone situations that even changing the circumstances doesn’t lend any real heart to the story. one bed, forced proximity, hurt comfort, it’s all so overused and gimmicky and so few authors even seem to try and make something original happen, to give life to some meaningless corner of existence. I want to watch two characters meet and see the threads of their lives weave together and create a language of intimacy. I crave the curse of a good romance that requires so much understanding of the two characters that even when you try to explain all the history the seemingly dry words exchanged between them you feel you need everything that preceded them. That moment you know that, as much as you want people to rejoice with you, no one is understanding quite what you have come to understand.
