went to a chain used book store in my area, where they have to throw away at least 5 donated bibles every day because theres simply too many being donated and the christian literature section takes more shelves than all of sociology/anthropology/racial studies/lgbtq history combined (roughly two shelves).

whether it was on purpose or not, someone had donated and then put on the shelf a copy of matt walsh's "what is a woman" on the lgbt history shelf. someone before me put it on the top of the books of the shelf below, which just happened to be the books on drugs. i couldnt believe what i found, and i remembered finding an actual copy of one of malinowski's worst ethnographies tucked deep behind other books on the shelf at a different location of the same chain.

there were some pretty detailed picture encyclopedias on weed down there. its quite shocking how many copies of the same book there are.

I hate the argument that you can't make characters of a demographic you're not a part of. Sorry babes I've gotta delete... oh wow! Everyone. Nobody left babes. Because I don't make nothing but self-inserts, whoops. Guess I gotta start making only allistics, white people, humans, bi/aces, enbies, and characters with anxiety, depression, or adhd. Sorry folks but you don't get anything else.

Anyways not allowing people who aren't part of a demographic gives us less representation. People in minority demographics aren't usually given voices in media creation, which means in many situatins we either have to force our voice to be heard, possibly putting ourelves into dangerous situations, or rely on majorities to make representation so we can be seen making our own. Unfortunately we still struggle for representation, so to deny anyone the ability to make characters that don't represent them denies the voices of people who may not be able to get their representation seen. We need to fight oppression together, and if allies want to help us fight our oppression, they should be allowed to. If they want to make us seen in darkness, they should be allowed to have flashlights.

Are you cis? It's ok to make trans characters. Straight? You can make characters who aren't straight. Neurotypical? You can make neurodivergent characters.

By not allowing allies tto fight with us, we're giving more room for oppressors, who can and will fight harder. We need to let allies speak with us to help drown out the voices of oppressors shouting over us. By not allowing healthy, good representation from ally cretors, we re allowing more room for oppressors to make harmful, demonizing representation that contributes to our oppressors. By not allowing allies to help us be seen, we are allowing oppressors to stay blind and ignorant for louder. Our oppressors won't listen to or look at us, but they might listen to allies.
