i have a dual degree in cultural anthropology and japanese language, and talk about one or the other often. in order to learn from a group, you must speak their language, so my interest is in japanese culture specifically, but i am not an expert by any means

ive delt with anxiety and intrusive thoughts for most of my life, and ive made peace with the fact that it will always be something ive delt with. i also have a constant internal monologue, so i literally hear my own "voice" inside my head, and these intrusive thoughts also take a "voice" i can hear. all of the therapy ive done cannot hold a candle to the mental reframing ive done on my own: its brain worms.

i call them brain worms after the maggot from corpse bride

thru the movie, he is a voice of doubt that quite literally lives in emilys head. he voices these doubts while not always being seen, and part of emilys growth as a character is learning to reject these doubts by the end of the movie. he is not always wrong, per say, but he exacerbates emilys anxiety to levels it would not have reached otherwise more often than not
