When you find out a coworker wants out of the department so bad, he's applied for a demotion, aka the same job you applied for. There is an unscheduled thirty minute gap between coworker's interview and yours (I got there ten minutes early b/c parking was shit, and I waited thirty minutes past my interview time because I didn't realize how long it had been)
And Your Coworker Gets The Job By End of Day.
I'm not mad at him. He's unhappy, he wants out. Good for him doing what's best for his mental health and all. (Especially after his first day and he walked into the glass wall at the front of the office so hard that it bent his glasses and gave him what might be a semi-permanent scar on his forehead above his eyebrow) I did something similar to get to my current position.
I am frustrated because when I asked about the time frame to hear about the decision, instead of being vague about it (oh about a week) she gave me a detailed and bullshit response that was weird but I was distracted by how awesome the job was and how much I wanted it. I would have rolled with this a LOT better if she'd been less about the bullshit, okay?
Pretty sure that delay (and it was a delay, no one was waiting for an interview, she didn't walk anyone else out when she called me back) well, I'm pretty sure that was them taking coworker's app to the selections people to get him cleared for the position and they only interviewed me and the lady who had the interview after me because we were there and they needed x number of interview to even make a hiring decision.
(I know it's hard for them to hire people because of the number of people who flake on interviews, okay? Like I barely got my first job with these people because they managed the minimum and only 2 of us showed up to hire. And I know that there's a lot going on in the world, but sometimes a job with good benefits, wage, and a good culture gets a bad rep or whatever because people promote or jump ship instead of trying to hold out, let the place get to full occupancy and smooth out that feeling of being overwhelmed and overworked. We have 9 positions at my level and SIX of them were vacated in the last six weeks. I am trying to keep up with the work of THREE, because my team of three, one promoted out, and the other was transferred to a different team and THEN promoted out. Theoretically I'm going to have someone to train end of next week, but we'll see how long that lasts (or I last. I did have two interviews this week and a LOT of applications that went out.)
I can't go somewhere else right now because
1- this is literally the only decent employer in my city. (The university should be one, but apparently they have secret application requirements that you only find out if you know someone. And the hospital, last I checked, doesn't have a lot of non-medical openings that pay well and offer these benefits. And retail is not an option because I can't stand up longer than 15 minutes without experiencing agonizing pain because of terrible joints.)
2- I have a lot of credit card debit that I need to pay down to help my credit score.
3- I wiped out my savings for two big medical procedures and don't have any funds to move and won't for at least a year.
