Sleepless Nights

Sitting in my bedroom I hear,

Portuguese being spoken 1000 mph. Why do foreign languages sound so fast? Are there specific languages that are actually spoken faster than others or is it just my untrained ear accompanied with my imagination? 

My sister is three years old and I envy her since she's growing up in a bilingual household. I wish this was the case for me.
