This is a PSA
I am a light skinned Hispanic person. I am biracial. My skin is light and I can pass for a white person. Which I spent most of my life relieved about because I grew up in the very tip of South Texas. Where I saw racism out of every corner I came across. Population of Hispanics was massive yes, but that did not stop the discrimination many felt every single fucking hour of every day by. I moved to Arizona and it just got so much worse. Despite how large a population size of minorities an area has, it doesn't stop the bigotry.
I was afraid for myself because the moment people found out I was Hispanic I was treated so differently for my background and for the color of my skin. I was just lying to everyone to seem "special." And as a kid that really hurt. Because children don't understand why both sides ridicule you. They just know they're being hurt. And that's not fair.
My skin is light. I am Hispanic. No I am not lying. No I am not "less Hispanic" because of my skin tone or because my dad is mostly white. I am Hispanic. No I am not a joke. I am biracial. Yes we exist.
friendly reminder: settlement jokes become even worse if they’re also racist
