idea:

move raspberry pi to other side of my room, near dresser

connect raspi to wifi via a usb dongle that i bought a while back

connect turntable to it via USB, move onto new dresser i got today

run pulseaudio on raspberry pi

send usb audio to my computer's pulseaudio server, creating a remote audio server for my raspberry pi. whenever i play my turntable, audio will come from my computer, which can be plugged into my speakers, headphones, etc. can also serve purpose of being used to record with via pulseaudio.

here's the guide i used. it's originally written for using with a Raspberry Pi running Raspbian, but it can be used with any other debian-based operating system and work perfectly.

and now i have transmission's web and rpc interface going over HTTPS, with lighttpd providing a proxy to give it the ssl capabilities, since transmission does not have ssl built in!

the bittorrent sync forums are down, so here's the instructions to install btsync from a repository with Debian (raspbian, in my case)

my "solution" to this is just to plug things in before turning on the pi which works just as well if the device isn't drawing too much. usb hub is the best solution tho

problem for me is that it seems to not recognize the devices even if they're in before booting. so, really either way i need a powered usb hub

so whenever i plug my external hard drive into my raspi, it reboots. after looking into this some, it turns out that on the model b rev 2.0 version that i got has the polyfuses in the usb 2.0 (used to prevent voltage jumps, basically) is removed because it would cause low currents to some usb devices. so, that results in a voltage jump that the raspi's CPU doesn't take nicely, and decides to reboot.

there's a few solutions, most of which require hardware modification. i have no experience in electrical engineering, so i'm taking the most common fix: a USB hub, with it's own power supply. since the raspi uses a mini-usb power adapter (like most android phones), it can be plugged in from a usb port, with a power adapter like common ones for a smartphone or android tablet, so I'll be replacing the power supply i use for my raspi right now, and will be using the usb hub instead!
