Over the last couple of months, Robin Cooper has been launching his new book Finding the Mind: A Buddhist View at Buddhist centres across the UK. If you haven’t been able to attend one of these events, here is the talk that he gave at the Manchester Buddhist Centre.
In this talk, Robin Cooper tells the entertaining story from the Shurangama Sutra of Ananda and Matangi falling in love. The Buddha takes Ananda through an amazing dialogue to help him find his mind, and we learn that the Buddha did not offer to save us through faith in his truth. Instead, he asked us to explore. Be aware, probe the edges of your awareness, investigate, and find your mind.
Introducing the last book in our 2012 'A Buddhist View' series...
On 17th September 2012, Windhorse Publications will be launching Finding the Mind, a book which explores the Buddhist teaching that our own mind is the key to understanding and transforming our experience.
Robin Cooper explains that Buddhism takes an exploratory approach - it asks us to seek: it is not a revelation of religious truths. The Buddha saw that we are all in a tough predicament. We are constantly anxious about what we lack and what we may lose, and in chasing security we easily cause pain to others. But the Buddha did not offer to save us through faith in his truth. Instead, he asked us to explore. Be aware, probe the edges of your awareness, investigate, and find your mind.
Finding the Mind: A Buddhist View will be released on Monday 17th September. Can't wait until then? You can read the introdution of the book for free here.
