(This is all light hearted it's just I see a lot of dick riding of big boss from fans saying things like this and imo entirely missing the point of his character/role in the story. Nothing against these people either. If yall want I can make a deeper analysis of his character)

Venom snake as a character tells a decent bit by proxy about big boss imo. You design him, give him your name, birthday. Venom was a completely different person and character before ttp. Considered one of John's best soilders within this cult of an operation.

Whats his thanks? Your thanks as the player? Becoming him. Memories replaced, face reconstructed, and made to stand in for him so he can achieve his greater plan. Becoming the biggest tool of them all. Being a proxy of him. An extension. An extension to him and his legend. Given a measely thanks over a tape. Then sent to die in his place.

All for some elusive greater good for soilders. A bigger picture you'll never get to see.

That is your reward.

Now some people argue that at the end, venom clearly is on board with it even after finding out the truth, yet I'd argue that even if he is, that's because of the cult like mentality of msf. Like yeah to any soilder on that base essentially becoming big boss and playing a big role in his plan would probably seem like a dream

I haven't played mgsv quite yet, but I've been fixating and doing a tremendous amount of research and watching gameplay. The power of fixation.

I was wondering about the relationship of BB/Kaz/Venom snake. Don't get me wrong, I like Kaz and BB, but honestly it sometimes feel like Venom was closer to Kaz than the real Big boss ever was.

Venom snake is intended to be a stand in for big boss, a body double indistinguishable from him, meant to believe he is him. Given his memories (from my knowledge).

I was thinking, does the closeness shown between him and Kaz of his volition, or is it meerely based off the memories of big boss he was possibly given of Kaz?

Is the connection meerely born from what he thinks big boss would do and how big boss would treat him or is it his own? Is he just an extension of Big Boss? Is he a more so of living time capsule of the Big Boss they once knew?

Is anything he does really his own? But at the same time is any of it what big boss would really do? At the end of day he isn't the real big boss, sure he's brainwashed to think he's him and be close to him as possible, and hypothetically would do what he'd do. Venom may have the memories and history of him, but he didn't have every thought he had, and isn't going through the same experiences at the same time.

But we as humans are fickle unpredictable creatures. At the end of the day the real Big Boss still left Kaz behind, not known if he was ever coming back for him. Did he still hold care for Kaz after the back and forth betrayal of each other? Or was Kaz always a tool to him? He could've easily gotten rid of Kaz entirely if he so wanted, yet he dosen't. The memories Venom were given of Kaz were enough to make him care right off the bat shortly after he wakes up. Ocelot still let's Kaz in on the plan at aomepoint and offers him to stick with them.

Sometimes I wonder if Ocelot and bb (and I suppose less so zero) thought they could still get Kaz to join their plan of outer heaven after the ploy with V.

They don't immediately tell him about V obviously, Kaz is best way I'd describe is volatile, not to mention he's hardly happy about working with zero again. Yet he's still important to bb, he still means something to bb, they had a close relationship and still did to an extent, I don't imagine he'd be so easy to just toss out. Plus they all have the same goal, to keep him alive. They all want him alive.

Of course we don't know every single detail of the plan. BB didn't know about it until he woke up, we don't know if ocelot ever discussed Kaz with BB, I imagine Zero was mainly just going to leave what happened to Kaz after Venom woke to the two.

Yet I think they had to know this roose wouldn't fool Kaz for long? Sometime after phatom limbs, as you can hear what I'm pretty sure is Kaz's cane he confronts ocelot, ocelot dosent bother lying, just laying out the whole plan, the way he talks as if he just expected Kaz to go along and join em. To which he does granted, but he isn't sticking around till the end, he's turning against them once it's all over. But he'll still help.

I also imagine bb and ocelot during ttp had limited contact.

look john is not a Saint of man at all, the shit he does in story mode is fucked up like burning down a village, do not approve, thumbs down

But I think people forget the whole reason he's going to extremes to find bill and javier including shit like this, desperation kicks in

His family is being held hostage by the government, wife and son dead if he dosent find these men in a certain time frame

A lotta parents if you asked (Not all ofc) would go to extremes and more to make sure their families especially their kids are safe

Are the things he did good? Ofc not, however I feel in this rare instance, he gets a bit of leeway. His wife and son are literally being held hostage

And it's a good look into his character

What is Redemption?

I really like red dead redemption

Big shocker I know

But it got me thinking, looking through some posts in the community, and while playing the game. What is redemption? When has one redeemed themselves?

Iv'e seen some people say John does nothing to redeem himself in either games, along with a few about Arthur, yet some say the opposite. Yet, what decides that? What's the bar for our protagonists to redeem themselves? Who decides they're redeemed? Us? Themselves? The characters around them?

Maybe John is redeemed in the eyes of his family, but what about to the family of someone he shot in his outlaws days? Does he need their redemption too? What if he does not see himself as redeemed, then is it all void? (Same goes for Arthur I'm just mainly using John as the example as im fixated on him sorry)

He does horrible things in rdr1, yet, some could argue he was pushed to those things by the circumstances and situation. I mean, after all his wife and child are being held captive by the government, many people would do drastic things for the ones they love. Does that set him back on his path to redemption in some way? Was he ever on that path? Is the simple act of trying to redeem one's self what matters?

Or will they simply always be irredeemable outlaws?
