El turned the key and the engine of the car went quiet. She was aware why he had brought her here, he was sure of it. Or it was clear from the way she wouldn’t say a word all the way up here. He had parked before a cozy looking town house. Nothing too extravagant, the mob boss surely could do better but El should be grateful for what he was given. He didn’t dare to look up and meet Avery’s gaze. Why not give something better to the mob boss daughter - he considered. Maybe her father wanted her to appreciate the small things, El had to hold back the ironic smirk pushing it’s way on his lips. Small things would look differently from how their childhoods looked, he should know as he was raised by her father’s mob.
The house wasn’t a full blown mansion but it was far better than what he would imagine for himself. He climbed the ladder long enough to become a mob lawyer now. His hands still were far from clean, he often were called into what needed fixing. Her father relied on him and perhaps wanted to make sure he will stay loyal not only to the family he had been raised by, but also loyal to the family of his own. Avery was a nurse, she wanted a normal life. But by the arranged marriage she was supposed to stay glued to the criminal background either way. “Come on.” He sighed and opened to the door of the vehicle to look to the building up close. The keys to the house were heavy in his pocket.
