alright alright so, since i just made a post about it, i figure i should explain some of the absurd humor of waves of misfortune.
for context, the story mostly follows the crew of a ship called the siren's call and a mysterious amnesiac who stows away onto the ship.
anyway—the call literally has three rival ships that appear to torment them throughout the story. one, the tide-breaker vi, is made of a rag-tag group of randos obsessed with the call, who constantly wreck their ship in pursuit of it and somehow keep procuring more.
the second is a bit more serious but let's move past that one lol
the third is a pirate ship called the silent choir, who literally named themselves to be the polar opposite of the siren's call. its captain, ravion, has been chasing the call for years, trying to be the first pirate to successfully raid the ship.
he has tried and failed six times.
the first three led to his arrest.
each time he has escaped from prison, just to hop back onto the hunt with a renewed vigor and ever-growing hatred for zarina and the call.
his quartermaster has a similar story.
they will not stop.
everyone agrees they’re incredible pirates and could rule the sea if only they stopped hunting the siren's call.
