Feature: FV envies “gloom pop” in newest single ‘You Need It’

This week I had the opportunity to sit down with Timmy Waldron from the band FV when they opened up for Vinyl Theatre in Philadelphia and ask him a few questions about the band. For those of you who are unfamiliar with FV, the band consists of; Timmy Waldron who sings and plays guitar, Chris Kitchen who plays drums, Sean McCall who plays guitar and backing vocals and lastly Evan King who plays bass and is the main producer of the band.

Timmy was quick to say “gloom pop” when asked what genre he felt the band fell into. He feels the band has a moody sense to it stating that “We aren’t always singing about the most joyful things.”, which was jokingly followed up with “We’re all just emo kids at heart.” and I think that’s something we can all relate to. When asked who the musical parents of FV would be Timmy said The Killers and INXS. He also threw in a third band called Ride, think of it as the bands step mother. Fun fact, FV’s dream tour would be the The National, Into it Over it and The Japanese House so it just goes to show you that the band is influenced by many different musical genres.

The band is based out of Philadelphia. In fact all of the band members moved in together once deciding they really wanted to take the next step with the band. The cool thing about FV is that you get a very genuine authentic vibe from them. All music is created together in the house and the music videos are even shot there too with the help of all of their friends.

Although in a band, Timmy doesn’t consider himself a musician. He thinks of himself as more of a creator giving credit too his bandmates for being real musicians who pick up where he leaves off. Music is a way for him to be expressive and make his mark on the world. He always knew he wanted to release his art and music was the outlet that seemed to work for him the best, it’s his calling. Luckily for him, his parents have been supportive through this creative process which he is very appreciative for. As the success of FV grows more, his parents are really starting to see what this journey is really all about for him and the rest of the band.

FV dropped a new single today called “You Need It” which you can stream everywhere now. It’s definitely something you’ll want to add to your playlist so you should go check it out! When asked about what’s next for the band Timmy informed us that the band plans to release a serious of EPs until FV really finds their sound. That’s when they’ll take to the studio to record a full album. Right now though the band is just enjoying being able to create content freely and not feel limited to one type of style.
