mmm… im not saying this isnt a possibility but lets not rule out the possibility that yuri could be right. i mean, we saw how viktor was watching the finalists skate. it’s possible that yuri helped him re-gain his passion for skating. (this would all be solved if they went into pair skating together btw)

Victor literally told Yuuri he wishes he could be his coach forever. Literally says he was feeling tied down by the competition and couldn’t find motivation in his new programs. Literally says Yuuri has given him life and love, something he’d neglected throughtout his entire  skating career. And y’all still think Victor wants to go back to that instead of pursuing all the new things and feelings he’s experienced with Yuuri smh

Even if we ignored all that -and why should we ignore it when we hear it from Victor’s own mouth is beyond me, but w/e- even if Victor did want to go back to skating competitively, it’d be borderline impossible. Not only did he go a whole year without training, he’s old. A year ago people were already expecting him to retire, and he was barely 27 back then. If he wanted to go back to compete, he’d be nearing 29 by the time the GPF rolled around. He’s reaching his expiration date as a figure skater and that’s the sad truth. We’re told this repeatedly. Even Chris who’s two years younger knows he’s running out of time. 

Let’s be extremely generous (as generous as those judges were with Yurio lol) and say he somehw manages to go back to compete. How many more seasons would he be able to do? One? Two if he’s lucky and doesn’t suffer any injuries? And then what?

Competition has never really seemed what drives Victor. JJ barely even registers in his radar. He’s friends with Chris, but they’ve known each other and shared numerous podiums for a decade, I don’t think he ever went into a season feeling motivated about besting Chris, he seemed just happy to see his long-time friend giving a good performance. His appreciation of the other skaters on the ice is most likely his own fondness of the sport, I honestly took it as him being happy to see the youngsters take the relay and carry on pushing new boundaries and finding new ways to surprise the audience, even if he’s not there to do it. His time is over and he’s ready to let go 

Also Katsuki Yuuri is an Unreliable Narrator. He’s beating himself up for a hand-down -a relatively minor miss- on a fully rotated quad flip, the second hardest jump currently achievable, that as far as we know, only him and Victor can do. And because he’s crippling himself with his anxiety, he’s seeing things that aren’t there. Seriously the last thing people should do is take his anxiety-ridden perceptions at face value
