Parfleche, late 19th c. Plains Indian tribe. (This is weird...I recall vividly seeing this same box 40 years ago in a catalog of First Nations' art.) (Cue the "Twilight Zone" music...)
Would be perfect for your personal Supplies or on your altar or in your meditation / ritual area. The box is made of rawhide, you can make one yourself (tedious and messy/slimy to work with). Not for anyone that doesn't wish to handle animal parts. And, the edges are sharp and hard Get a chunk of rawhide from the pet store and you'll see the consistency of what the finished product is...and don't expose to rain or mist or water.
Personally, I think it's beautiful. I've made smaller ones and envelope versions for many years.
