ʘ‿ʘ - Which person (out of all the people you have met so far) seems the most closest to your heart? ((basically who do you like the most?))
((Hmmm, well, Batter would never admit this, but the four people he’s met so far that have tugged at his heartstrings the most (for a man who doesn’t really give his heartstrings much heed at all, considering all the love and affection he can possibly give has been turned to hating the Queen) would have to be Vide, Libitina Flores, Tot (tiny!Batter) and Sucre. He treasures having met them and values each of them differently in his heart, hence why I doubt he would be able to single one of them out as the sole being he likes the most.
He values Vide as the first Merchant he met that he didn’t see as completely Impure, mostly thanks to the fact that, at that point, he had only met Zacharie merchant-wise, and Vide lacked the cold charisma, arrogance and generally aloof nature that Zacharie did, as well as the fact that she helped him out of a bad jam and even offered her help without need for payment. He pities her somewhat, feeling that her timid nature doesn’t fit her and her profession, but he likes her as a friend and comrade, a Merchant he’d be more than willing to go to for supplies and just someone to talk to that he won’t see as a jerk. Sorry Zacharie, my Batter don’t like ya’.
Libitina Flores, on the other hand, is pretty much the closest to a significant other he’s had since his mission began, and he truly does appreciate her company. She was the first Batter he met that was willing to really sit through his ranting on how much he hates his fate, something that was heavy in his mind at the time. He appreciates her willingness to listen and finds her somewhat attractive in more romantic ways as she, unlike the Queen, understands the life of a purifier and can sympathize with his position more, not to mention that there’s a certain part of his mind that sees the pursuit of another woman as kind of giving The Queen the middle finger, saying that another version of himself is more fitting as a wife and ruler than she is, but in all truth he values Libitina Flores as a good friend, and possible partner should such feelings develop and do not impede his mission.
Batter pities Sucre very, very much. He looks to her and sees a woman trapped, both physically in her basement in Zone 0 and in her mind, as she is addicted to Sugar, a substance he has always found vile for its mind-altering properties and the fact that it “hides" Impurity by calming Elsens on the verge of going Burnt. He finds her incredibly Impure for these reasons, but can see that there is an innocence and desire for freedom in her, and respects her suffering. If anything, he values her as a friend, especially since she was willing to help him during a time when he himself became addicted to sugar, a very dark time in his life that he still considers revolting. He values her as a comrade and as someone whom he truly wishes he could help.
Tot is yet another case of pity resulting in positive emotion for the Batter, although his pity stems from a different place in his heart with this diminutive alternate Batter. He hates what Tot’s Puppeteer did and the position it puts the poor little guy in, constantly needing protection and always in danger thanks to his size. So, in all truth, the reason why Batter likes Tot so much as a friend is because he’s ticked off at Tot’s Puppeteer, which sparks his revolutionary spirit, which in turn only increases his pity for and desire to help the little guy. So yea, Batter would really like to have Tot as a friend, although he’ll never admit it out loud, much like any of his feelings in this post, really.
Batter I don’t think would be able to really single out any of these guys as his number 1 favorite as he really isn’t all that good at self-analysis when it comes to his emotions (see the hundreds of times he’s gotten ticked off by his own thoughts/words and has freaked people out with it) and he would also see all of them as dear to him, even if the feeling is not reciprocated. Let’s face it, the guy has been told that his world is a game, a game that will continue to be repeated without end, that his whole life is a sham…He’s gonna cling to as many people that bring him positive emotion for as long as he can.
