for a book about the absurdity of existence and human nature in the face of evil "the plague" sure does have some amazing character dynamics that i would love to see explored in an office comedy. Grand Rieux and Tarrou are out there hanging out and editing one sentence 1000 times. if Tarrou could he would study Cottard like a bug which Rieux is definitely kinda jealous of. the fact that Rieux and Tarrou live together is never addressed by anyone. they both canonically dislike the police and all of them casually hang out with a criminal despite being law abiding citizens (unless we count Rambert's attempts at escaping Oran, but he didn't actually do it so i'm not including it). Grand is like 20 years older than all of them. Tarrou doesn't even have a job he just hangs around his husband and keeps acquiring new friends for Rieux who doesn't actually want to talk to any of them half of the time but he will still do it because he's too nice not to. one of them is mentioned to be a war weteran and nobody ever addresses that either. Tarrou is a nepo baby who ran away from home after threatening to kill himself and guess what, we're not going to talk about that too. none of them want to be there. can you imagine them all spending half of their day in one building together in 2010s. i need 8 seasons that are all purely filler episodes and everyone assumes that tarrieux are dating hilson-style and we get the sea scene during a beach episode
