=Thinking of how I work as a median/midcontinuum, and thought I would write it down since, you know, memory is Swiss cheese. I’m not sure how to cut/readmore on mobile so uh.. I apologize if this is long!!
For a while I considered the facets to just be kintypes, but they don’t really work the same way. And some of them have/are various kintypes themselves. For example: Static-Static (the “default” me) has kintypes of Reaper, dragon, and ghost for example. Static-Static is those things simultaneously even if they aren’t being expressed simultaneously. Static-Static seems to encompass all the others but also is its own thing.
When I am Static-Static, I am also all the other facets, though usually muted to some degree. However, when I switch to a specific facet, it gets a bit different.
For example: Ryo-Static. When I am that “version” of myself, I really don’t think about/consider some of the other facets as being me. When I am Ryo-Static I am not Minato-Static and vice versa, but when I’m Static-Static I am both of those, just in the “background”.
Regarding the facets and kintypes, as another example, when I am M.I.-Static, I experience a mechanical kintype that, while I still have it when that facet isn’t in the forefront, is only really expressed fully by that facet and not most of the others.
How does it differ from the other system members? Well - despite the facets feeling different enough that I consider them somewhat separate, they don’t have conflicting emotions, interests, or opinions, just amplifications of existing ones.
Ex: When I am Barry-Static I have a more pronounced interest in learning about how magic/lore works in fantasy settings, and I might generally have a more jovial disposition than say, the more stoic and tetchy disposition as Ryo-Static. But Ryo-Static and Barry-Static don’t disagree on interests or emotions, and can’t talk to each other as if they were separate; I still get a bit tetchy as Barry-Static, just not as easily. I still can be jovial as Ryo-Static, just not as easily.
So, while they’re different, they aren’t separate. However, between non-facet system members, we ARE separate. I can be Ryo- or Barry-Static and still think the same things, but Joshua and I for example do not think the same things - no matter the facet for example I still enjoy the same foods; both Ryo- and Barry-Static will happily eat butter chicken curry for example. However Joshua doesn’t really like it, so he has a separate opinion of it that differs from the overall Static opinion.
Josh hates soy but the rest of us are unopinionated; Goro hates spicy things but some of us love spice; I (Static) really dislike bitter vegetables while Andy thinks they taste refreshing, etc. - opinions between system members are differing, but opinions between Static facets are always the same.
It seems like some of the other system members have something similar; Goro has a few kintypes he ‘switches’, and for example, Silver-Goro is different from Vanitas-Goro, and in a similar sense when he is Silver-Goro he doesn’t really feel like he’s also Vanitas-Goro but DOES feel like he’s both when he’s Goro-Goro. That said for him I think the delineation is a little more blurry, so while I consider myself to have facets he just considers them to be strong kintypes.
And conversely, Rayne has an almost-separate facet of Myar. The Static facets and Goro facets do not have separate genders or pronouns from the overall; all of mine are he/him for example; but Myar, despite “being” Rayne, is decidedly female and uses she/her where Rayne absolutely is not. Myar seems to almost function like a stand or a persona; separate enough to be named and otherwise identified from the ‘base’, but linked together/more combined than separate. Both Rayne and Myar have the same opinions, interests, and thoughts, but Myar has an extremely amplified parental/guardianship inclination and is way more serious and stoic.
Meanwhile, Rayne is interesting in that fae have a lot of kintypes but fae don’t consider them to be facets because faere a shapeshifter; fae can be a Mew or a werewolf or whatnot without feeling any different sense of self. M.I.-Static and Ryo-Static are different enough that they each don’t feel they are the other when fronting within the Static subsystem, but Rayne feels fae are all faer other kintypes simultaneously, and just shapeshifts when convenient.
And then there’s Josh who, to the point it’s almost an insystem meme, is just Josh. His kintype? Josh. His gender? Josh. He’s just Joshua.
Anyways, that’s how we work for the most part.
