Exposition “Tous Léger !“ au Musée du Luxembourg, Paris, juillet 2025.
Lesson One
“Pardon?”
The Ren’dorei said to the oh so familiar man, and then he said with the most disarming smile “You have such potential...Lady Nightvale...” He took her hand and kissed her knuckles softly, bowing a little as she watched him with some fear. Yet she was drawn to him, her cheeks turning a dark purple at his appearance. He was dressed rather well, she spoke of him becoming predictable and Vorain just smirked. He knew she hated him not answering her questions, perhaps hated his existence to some extent. Good...She would come with him, he stood closer still. Whispering to her, begging and pushing his mouth close against her ears.
Soon he was leading her away, she was ready for the first lesson...He would push her into it. Slipping into a room in a tavern, with a flick of his wrist he set up the barriers for sound and such. Raysse followed with more questions and he grinned darkly as he began to banter with her. She always thought she knew him, always thought she’d figured him out. Though part of him or the whole may be incredibly delusional. Was he...Was he not?
“You think preying on peasants is some grand triumph!”
He began to laugh, to show her she couldn’t get that rile out of him she wanted. The Void showed her the black wave, his powers coming to light and the madman shook with restraint on his part. The barrier he had set up, barely containing his power.
She began to grow angry, she began to tell him how she wouldn’t fall to the Void as he had. They began to battle, Void and Fel clashing violently and exploding around them. She was however, just a student beneath all that innate talent...He soon overwhelmed her to where she shot a ball of shadow at him. He caught it tossing it back at her with a roar “MORE CONTROL” They went back and forth, he walked closer and she moved back until his last blast crashed her against the wall.
Then...As he began to overwhelm Raysse...The Lord-Steward burst in...Knocking him back, the barrier holding the death knight and the steward at arms length while he then tried to lunge at the Lord...Also known as Hinik Da’kien. Unsuccessful, back up was on his way...
“YOU’RE MINE LORD-STEWARD!”
The mental assault began, but more were coming and he couldn’t compromise himself any further...So he vanished with Raysse injured, bleeding and yelling for Vorain to be caught...
He turned to smoke, Hinik had grazed his shoulder and getting to see a bit of his mind began to get the gears turning for him. He made his way back to his Lord’s manor and slipped in for the evening.

Martial Raysse, 82 years of age and still going strong, but his works have definitely changed. They have become Mythological inspired and stand far from the Pop Art he made in the sixties when his works and art became known together with other beginning artists.
In October 1960 he founded together with Yves Klein, Arman, Spoerri, Tinguely and Villegle de artist group NOUVEAUX REALISTES . They tried to approach reality in a new and avant garde way and were seen as the french equivalent of the Pop Art mouvement. Martial Raysse worked like Warhol with silkscreens contrasting colors and added Neon to his paintings, making them instantly recognizable and appealing.
Another aspect of his art was that his paintings were not flat, but had in many cases a 3D addition. A rope, box or the mentioned neon gives the painting literally several layers. His 60’s adn early Seventies are among the best Pop Art paintings produced and fetch extremely high prices at auction. recently one of his paintings fetched a staggering 4 Million.
At a more affordable level the excellent Stedelijk Museum catalogue designed by Wim Crouwel is available at http://www.ftn-books.com . It has a special Raysse designed cover and even the use of colors ( out and inside ) is typical Raysse. Available at www.ftn-books.com
