TADC Trans Women: Pomni and Jax

small notes: This is my own interpretation of the show— I headcanon both Jax and Pomni as trans women; this is purely for fun. This isn't so much about why Jax is trans coded more so how this impacts his relationship with Pomni.

I'd prefer this not be viewed as a ship post as I don't personally ship them and I wish there was more readings on their relationship that wasn't just romantic.

I do not excuse any of Jax's actions. Jax is not a good person, this is simply me analyzing his behavior.

Despite the rough start in the circus, Pomni has an extremely strong sense of self. She holds her humanity close and her empathy closer—highlighting a distinct, personal identity, even while trapped. Pomni is the most "normal" of the group; reacting to things like most people would.

With that said, Pomni has no true "role" in the circus. She never truly falls into an archetype— she's herself. Pomni's character is that she knows exactly who she is. She feels comfort in her body because she feels comfort in herself.

While Pomni does not read as trans coded as Jax, I feel that it adds more depth to her character and relationship with Jax.

Jax, despite what he says, has no true identity— slapping labels upon himself to pretend he does. Pomni is who she wants to be [possible gender envy] and it sucks. He wants to bring Pomni down to his level. That's why he's so cruel to mainly women. He wishes to be them yet can't, even in this fantasy world.

Yet, Pomni persists.

Even after Jax yells at her about how little he'd care if she'd "died"— Pomni always extends her hand to him.

After being on the verge of abstraction, Pomni is the first face he sees.

Pomni's the person to pull Jax up, despite knowing he wouldn't do the same for her. As a trans woman, Pomni sees herself in Jax. She knows Jax would be happier as a woman but can't directly tell him such— so instead, she offers her support. Sticking by his side while he works himself out. Pomni understands Jax better than anyone else, even without the full picture.

Jax being on the verge of abstraction is oddly a blessing in disguise. None of this is real to him but he doesn't want to be alone. An out and proud trans woman keeps the severely closeted woman safe.

Jax being put into a maid outfit is a scene that sticks with me. Pomni is the only one who voted against it— of course it's to be nice but lets look deeper.

If Pomni is a trans woman, she could understand Jax's fears. Perhaps sensing the egg, she worries that being humiliated for being feminine would only push Jax further in.

It's funny how Pomni reacts vs Zooble... I think Zooble can see the egg in Jax too consider they're also trans.

Pomni rejects the joke while Zooble well...

Is a bit more forward with their view on Jax... though that's a topic that has been talked about in depth enough by multiple more eloquent people.

Pomni slowly tries to push Jax out of his shell through understanding, Jax slowly allowing himself to be vulnerable versus how aggressive he is with Zooble due to her more direct approach. He needs understanding more than jokes. Jokes are his cover up that's why he's the "funny one".

Also this. They knew damn well what they were doing.

Maybe Jax knows what Pomni is trying to do and is pushing back. Won't deter Pomni though, making her the perfect foil for Jax.
