Hi! I'm not from the UK and I am curious: how much does it cost to keep a number active like this without using it? Do you need to actively do something to keep it alive or might they just charge for it directly on a bank account until you say you don't want/need it anymore? Thanks and happy holidays!

I’ve always been of the opinion that the number is a Pay as you Go number, which would mean it could stay completely unregistered with no name or any sort of information attached to it. If that were the case, they would need to switch the phone on once every 180 days (6mo) and make a chargeable connection action (send a text, make a phone call) to keep it active. The only cost to this would be making sure the number has credit to make the chargeable connection action.
I haven’t been able to find out if you could theoretically leave a phone off and stay connected if you were on a pay monthly contract. I presume so? So that’s another option. It wouldn’t cost too much to keep this up, especially for millionaires.
