Of TRIPS: Intramuros, Manila (2)
My next stop was Baluarte de San Diego Gardens which houses a bastion. Its history tells us that it was integrated into an older fort with cortina or curtain walls, built from 1591-1594. The bastion is a protruding structure with facing flanks built along the cortina. The purpose of its projection was to ensure a clearer view of the cortina for the artillery - in order to prepare against invaders. The bastion has two parts; face (which projected outward) and flanks (connecting the face and the cortina, or the curtain wall).
I paid for the entrance fee which was about 100 pesos (it includes your map and info guide to the whole area).
The garden has some cool stuff inside like artillery (yeah, it seems to be a thing around the area) and some old historical stuff such as tricycle, fountain, etc.
Then I walked up to the next level of the garden to find the bastion itself! I saw this in one of the old movies I watched, they had a fight scene here, I couldn't remember the title. And it was just cool to see it irl!
Then I walked around, sat in one area to rest my tired feet and mainly to just watch the view of Manila around me. I’ve never really sat down and be amazed about Manila since I’ve lived there for 6 months during my review school and all I could think about was the traffic. Meh. But really, it was just nice to be able to breathe some clean air (I hope) and observe some greenery inside the city.
When I was done with my sojourn, I walked around some more until I finally descended in another part to explore. And I found more. Here are some photos.
To be continued in my next post...
Of TRIPS: TEMPLE OF LEAH (CEBU)
Along with seeking for job opportunities, I also got the chance to do a little bit of sight-seeing in Cebu City last July 14, 2017. Together with my mother and few other relatives, we went to Temple of Leah and Taoist Temple (which I will be talking about in my next post).
Temple of Leah is located in Roosevelt St., Busay, Cebu City. There’s an entrance fee of P50 per head (just equivalent to about a dollar (US)).
Still not yet done with construction, Temple of Leah is a temple dedicated obviously to someone with the same name who happens to be Leah V. Albino-Adarna by her family, the Adarna’s.
According to sugbo.ph, as for Teodorico Adarna, owner of Temple of Leah and father of Filipino actress Ellen Adarna, this huge edifice of Roman Architecture design is his way of showing how strong his love and his ceaseless devotion to his wife, Leah.
We got there by private vehicle so I didn’t have the hard time in actually getting there. But if you don’t have a private vehicle, you can actually take taxi to get you to the temple. The road up is pretty steep to because the temple is located up in the mountains – thus the amazing view it’ll give you as well.
Or according again to sugbo.ph: There’s a shuttle available in front of Dessert Factory in SSY Center across Watsons / JY Square Mall in Lahug. SSY Center can be found on Waze or Google Maps. The shuttle goes to Temple of Leah, Tops Lookout and Lantaw. It’s P120 per person for a round trip ride.
Here are just some of the statues you can find in the temple, as there are many of it. It transports you to the Roman era, I actually wondered for a bit if I was still in Cebu.
And oh, I found this cooper parked just below the grand staircase. I guess, it’s part of the display or just the car of the owner. I don’t know, I didn’t ask. People were just taking a picture of it so I did too.
I’m not sure when will the construction be done. People are whining how it’s not worth getting there because it’s not yet done, like jeez, chill. You’ve said it, it’s not yet done. Maybe when it is, you can judge the place. As for me, aside from the heat of the sun, it was amazing being there. The view was breathtaking. And I’m sure when the whole temple is done, it’ll be as mesmerizing!
