The Mother-to-Be: An Unexpected Journey to Motherhood
What it's Really Like to be Pregnant?🤰🤔
We recently had the incredible chance to interview a wonderful resilient pregnant woman from Davao City Boulevard, Philippines. Our conversation was a beautiful deep dive into what it feels like to create and nurture life. This wasn't just a story about a baby bump; it was a testament to the strength and discovery found within. We even touched on the fascinating science of the eight stages of life that all begin with one magical moment of conception. From the physical realities of carrying a child to the emotional and social shifts that have reshaped her life.
Biological Shift
When I asked about the physical changes she's experienced, she was refreshingly honest. "My skin has become very itchy, and I have a lot more acne now," she said. It’s a common but often unmentioned reality of pregnancy—the body's transformation isn't always a "glow." She also shared the struggle of finding a comfortable sleeping position, noting, "I have to sleep on my side because it's hard and uncomfortable for me to lie in any other position."
Her relationship with food has also been in constant flux. "I've become very picky when it comes to food," she explained, with her cravings and aversions changing all the time. This unpredictable appetite is a well-known aspect of pregnancy, but hearing it described as a daily challenge brings a new perspective.
Emotionally, she confessed to a heightened sensitivity. "I've become easily irritated and I don't like being disturbed," she admitted, revealing a side of pregnancy that goes beyond the typical narrative of happiness and excitement.
On the Mental and Social Shifts
Despite the physical and emotional challenges, her outlook on the pregnancy is overwhelmingly positive. "I'm very happy, even though the pregnancy was unexpected," she told me. She holds a hopeful view for her baby's development, expecting her newborn to be fully developed and healthy at birth.
When it comes to learning about pregnancy, she turns to a modern source: social media. "I watch a lot of reels on Facebook about how other people handle pregnancy, and I try to apply what I watch to my own life." This highlights the growing role of digital platforms as a primary source of information and community for young people navigating major life events.
Her story also underscores the social complexities that can accompany an unexpected pregnancy. She revealed she hid her pregnancy from her parents for four months, explaining, "I'm not in the right age and I'm still a student." While her friends were aware and very supportive, she had to wait until her bump was obvious to share the news with her family.
The pregnancy has profoundly impacted her education and living situation. She has stopped attending school and is now living with her partner. However, she has found support from both her partner and family, who provide for her cravings. She has also adapted her daily life by helping her boyfriend’s mother with her isawan stand and making sure to exercise often to stay healthy.
This journey is a powerful reminder that pregnancy, particularly for a young person, is not just a biological process but a complex, multifaceted experience that reshapes one's body, mind, and entire social world.
The Journey Continues
After talking with our interviewee from Davao City, it's clear that pregnancy is more than just a physical transformation—it's an incredible journey of discovering inner strength and new perspectives. Her honesty about the ups and downs, and her powerful insight into the eight stages of life, made this a truly memorable conversation. We're so grateful she was willing to share her story with us.
Now It's Your Turn!❤️
We hope her experiences resonated with you. The journey to parenthood is unique for everyone, and we'd love to hear from you.

The majority of the physical phenomena on this planet can be captured by first and second order differential equations. It is rare for a third order differential equation to show its face. Thus in according to this mathematical observation we find its correlate in the fact that we can have a wave in the water corresponding to a first-order differential equation, and a wave written on that wave corresponding to a second order differential equation. On normal shorelines one never witnesses a wave within a wave within a wave, which physical situation corresponds to a third order differential equation.
But such was the velocity of wind within the narrow channel that separates mainland Davao from Samal Island, wind so vicious it threatened to topple me over as i stood on the jetty jutting into the channel, that the water was worked up into fine wrinkles (see the upper left corner of the first photograph) , these wrinkles placed onto a wave within a wave, corresponding to that magical third order differential equation.
Water finds it difficult to fold itself more than twice, surface tension tending to smooth out wrinkles; yet here it managed to accomplish the minor marine miracle of folding itself thrice, wild wind wrinkling the waters, no other word than "wrinkle" sufficing to describe this fine liquid rumpling.
This was the first time i had seen "wrinkled water", the experience an epiphany, the wild wind bringing about the derivative of the derivative of the derivative; the wild wind allowing the water to express its existential essence more completely.
