Thoughts about teenaged characters

I saw a post discussing this on Reddit and it made me think.

The first SOS was about high schoolers. There were intimate scenes (I honestly can only remember one). But it wasn’t graphic and there were no CGs in that book.

Fast forward to SOS2, the graphics are significantly better. There are CGs. I am a little apprehensive about how the intimate scenes will be handled. I’m assuming it won’t be as graphic as other books, but I’m a little worried about the CGs. Especially after that Rudy card showed us that naked high schoolers are no big deal.

It also made me think of other VN apps. In AWH, Legends of Coraline Bay starts out with a 17 year-old MC. All the LIs are older. Yet, that book is very graphic, like 10x more graphic than RC, and it’s still really popular. I haven’t seen any complaints about it the way I’ve seen with SOS2.

I wonder if it’s the absurdity of Legends of Coraline Bay that gives it a pass. Is it because the minor is the female character and everyone is used to girls being sexualized at a young age, but not boys? Or is it because we don’t see the MC in a school setting?

I’d say one of the things SOS2 does very well is capturing the emotions and reasonings of a teenager. It feels very realistic and relatable. Maybe that’s why it feels more uncomfortable? It feels more real?

Or maybe RC’s players are just different? Maybe AWH players just know their app is smuttier? 🤷🏻‍♀️ If RC released a book just as unhinged and smutty with a young MC like Coraline Bay, would we be okay with it?

Penelope "Poppy" Emerson is the It Girl of Saintfour High. Between her viral beauty blog and thriving gossip blog, she has everyone in town under her thumb. She's the perfect example of the most popular girl in school, from her designer clothes to her snarky personality. Everyone wants to be on her good side, clamoring over themselves to avoid becoming the target of her next brutally honest post. Everyone except for Nadine. Despite herself, Poppy finds Nadine's lack of pretense refreshing. She's grown bored of her small town, popular life and is desperately searching for something new. That excitement comes in the form of the disappearances of many of her classmates. Poppy is determined to be the first to break the story, potentially turning her gossip blog into the next big thing. Will she be able to find it inside her to let down her walls and join forces with Nadine? Or will she resort to her usual defensive mechanisms of insults and shoving people away with both hands?

What are your thoughts on SOS2? Rn I’m obsessed with Rudy (I absolutely adore friends to lovers) and I wanna know who you plan to romance!!

I am taking everyone's interactions because I can't decide. I, too, have a hard time resisting friends to lovers, but as Derek was perfect, I fear Rudy will never be him.
